Well here’s the scoop...im running a 365 engine off a 58 bolted on to a 62 trans. both Cadillac. The problem is the starter ('62) is burning out. Guy at shop suggested the starter is getting stuck to flywheel and as engine accelerates, with starter stuck to flywheel, the starter burns out. Some other guy said it shouldn’t matter most caddy engines are the same from 49-62 only the internals chance to make them bigger. I keep getting mixed advice some say just add shims or change flywheel, others say you not supposed to add shims with cadillac its hit or miss. I’m not too familiar with caddy so ANY help will be much appreciated.

The problem may lay in the starter.

I believe that 62 starters were different than 61 and down.

You might want to verify this to be sure though.

the 6 v 331 starters are differebt too--can't speak to the 61/62 issue--always assumed they were interchangable.
