I'm trying to find the original engine color for the early Cad V8's. The OHV not the flatheads. The first one's were 331's weren't they? I recall seeing one somewhere that was a dark green with yellow or creme detail on the valve covers.

Every one I've seen is dark blue. The darkest of the Ford engine blues is close.

Yeah, Most seemed to be dark blue from the factory, but I've seen a couple motors and intakes that I believe to be original that were painted a gold color.

The factory Cadillac color is Dark Blue. It is still available from Cadillac resto houses. The Eldorados used a Dark Blue block and Gold valve covers and Air cleaners. It is possible that some Eldo engines had been 100% gold, but I have not seen this verified and doubt it....

Blue? Puke! I guess I'll just use a little artistic license. Thanks for the help.

Check some old parts houses for Plasticoat Cadillac Blue spray cans - they might still have old stock. It's discontinued as near as I can tell. And I love that color ...

Here is all the right colors for your 390 Caddy. Remember to get the right Cadillac blue... it's not the same as the dark Ford blue.

Coopers Vintage has the paint you need (the correct dark Cadillac blue.) It's like $14 bucks per rattle can though.... www.coopersvintage.com
