Cadillac Engine Maximum Torque Specialties

    Bought a Cadillac engine and am trying to ac***ulate the parts I want for it. Has anyone had any experience with Maximum Torque Specialties ?

    Street, short duration wide lobe separation.. Avg. 288/302..116 lobe separation.. Now put that 2.87 rear end in there with that turbo 400 and enjoy the road with piles of torque right off idle and power brakes that actually work...

  6. It going in my short bus.
    Replacing the 350.
    410 gears on 32-3 inch tall tires.
    May go to 373 or keep the 410s and install an OD.
    I can cruise 65 no problem now. Around 2600/2800 rpm.
    The 350 just lacks a little in the torque dept on inclines.

    Just to clarify, as I have been following this MTS saga over the years. That's Maximum Torque Specialties for the record.

    MTS was started by Larry Kruzick of Florida, originally as Cadillac Motorsports Development until he was sued by GM. He pioneered the world of Cadillac 68-76 472/500 engine mods. He later sold to an Al Betker in Wisconsin. After a while MTS was sold to Marty Lane in Apple Valley, California. During all this time it was a reputable, honest company, and the best place to buy Cadillac parts.

    Mr. Kruzick was before my time, but I ordered some hypereutectic pistons from Al Betker, and it was he who got me hooked on the Cadillac motors with his exciting romantic descriptions of what it was like to drive one of the Big Cads.

    Marty Lane was a good man who took MTS to its greatest peak. He was a successful businessman with previous experience selling bowling equipment, under the name Lane Products. He later also acquired the ***ets of Potter Automotive aka Cadillac Performance Parts, another good operation run by Jerry and Richard Potter (father and son) of Soddy-Daisy, TN who were quite innovative. They had competed in the Engine Masters Challenge and I was there as they were putting the finishing touches on their very well built engine, getting ready for the compe***ion.

    Richard Potter worked with a Stan Justus out of Knoxville, a brilliant old machinist, and together they designed an excellent set of aluminum heads for the Caddy and a single plane intake based on lessons learned from their max effort engine builds. When Jerry Potter closed the shop due to family problems and old age Marty bought up their ***ets.

    Marty then went on to do further innovation with his own aluminum head and single plane intake design. It wasn't clear to me but I seem to recall they were influenced by the Potter/Justus designs, but were meant to be more affordable. (All the details are in old CadillacPower.com threads.)

    Marty had a cool blown 53 Studebaker project that he never got to complete as unfortunately he died of cancer. His brother Paul I think was initially going to keep MTS going, but as the writing was on the wall for the big Cad industry (in steep decline) he sold to this Isaac character, who turned out to be a total piece of s__t scammer as the above thread explains. How this guy isn't in prison yet is beyond me.

    There was even a thread on the old CadillacPower.com forum (also a shadow of its former self) where Isaac's sister got on there to denounce him as a scamming POS. This is how I become aware of all that.

    I'd bet the "Paul Lane" you talked to wasn't Paul Lane at all. Probably one of scammer Isaac's many aliases.

    CadCo has always been a mediocre supplier known for complaints and problems with part fitment, quality, and so on. If you just need some stock type parts they're fine I guess. They never equalled MTS, and if they are considered the top supplier these days it goes to show how far things have fallen.

    Rest in peace, Mr. Kruzick, Mr. Betker, Mr. Lane, Mr. Jerry Potter, and all others who gave a big part of their lives to building these excellent motors.

    I for one would damn sure love to have a pair of those Potter/Justus heads, intake, and the "built like a brick s__thouse" shaft rocker system Potter had also, along with a pair of MTS heads and intake too, if anyone happens to read this post who has any of this stuff and wants to sell it.

    There is one more character who should be mentioned in relation to the MTS story. There was a man named John Walker who had his own company. He posted under the name TORQUE INC on CadillacPower. He built me a custom oil pan for my motor and it turned out very nice. Eventually he sold out to Marty and MTS, and together they were the ones who designed the new MTS aluminum head and intake. Rest in peace John.

    I had a 526 inch stoker built by Mr. Kruzick, Great guy honest and upstanding Never had a ounce of trouble with that motor. It was blown, I wrongly set up my drive train totally wrong( I was in a Chevy state of mind) 3500 stall speed converter and 4:11's. Caddy's don't rev over 6000. once I straightened that **** out, that thing was a MONSTER!!
