Used the search facility and come up a blank.. ? I'm planning the build of my 40 Mercury, Ive got a 50 Merc flathead and 39 3 speed, but to throw a spanner in the works the opportunity of a Cadillac flathead and 3 speed box has unfolded. Its hardly a reason to go to all the trouble, but I was hoping to fit a LaSalle grille shell to the Merc so fitting the Cadillac mill would be a cool alternative and fit with the proposed styling. Ive been searching for suitable reference but cant find anything 40s ford / mercury related that has been fitted with the Cadillac Flatty.. anyone have any input, seen a few fitted to A's B's and 34s so kinda suspect its probably been done on a Mercury but having a hard time finding anything.. hope you can help.
I think in this case I'd save the Caddy flathead for a fenderless coupe or roadster and go with the known quantity. Sometimes the practical factor overrides the "damn that would be cool" factor.
Hey Ian, you do know that the engine weighs close on 980lbs don't you? I had a hand in building Ratty's Modified and that has a Cadillac Flathead in it. The 'box was shortened by roughly three feet, converted to open drive using early Ford truck parts including the mount. It took me ages to get the engine in the "right" place and it's still not finished. My 2 Ton engine hoist has a hernia and my elbow joints are ruined. I blame that engine. I see a Mercury Flathead in your future.

The follow in are from here- http://perichbrothers.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html Same car as above? How many 39 Fords with flathead Caddies can there be? Google perichbrothers
^^That^^ appears to have that homebuilt bellhousing that someone on the HAMB built and posted progress on a few years ago. I don't remember who it was, but I was impressed that he built a bellhousing out of a dozen pieces of flat sheet steel.
HAMBer emiliedk used a Caddy V8 in restoring the Jack Stewart '41 Ford. You can find some info in his thread, starting HERE:http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...1-ford-restoration-has-started.507749/page-11
The transmission looks like a 3 speed Chevy Form-http://perichbrothers.blogspot.com/2011/02/tres-huevos-1940-ford-coupe.html
That's Zibo's coupe above. He's done lots of posts on the car. Search for his stuff. But, realize he basically built the whole car from scratch (frame, floor, half the outer body as well), starting with a very roached shell. He could fit anything he wanted in there since it was all custom built to fit around the engine.
This is the HAMB build thread for Zibo's 40 Coupe with the Cad Flathead. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...everything-else-possible.335174/#post-3611480 Some really nice work installing the Cadillac flathead & especially his method to chop & resurrect a rough 40 Ford coupe. Same car as the Perichbrothers blog with all the build detail..
