Well guess I need to update this thread a lot has happened on the digger not to mention life lol anyhow The dragster has been so close for a long time now and with life and the lacking of funds I made a decision to do the unthinkable to my flatcad powered digger even though it was a good thing not everyone will agree with me

So a couple months ago I started to blow the dragster apart and I really wanted to make the meltdown drags and hamb drags this year but my budget was so thin this year I decided that being that the car was so close to running I just needed a motor and the flatcad just isn't in the cards right now so I dug around in my pile o parts gathered up enough stuff to stab a sbc in it now before you guys murder me remember I have never driven a dragster before and I figured if things went south a sbc is easier to come by than a flathead caddy motor

So with very few changes I fabbed up some mounts and voila I. Have a running car for very few dollars

Now don't fear the flatcad WILL be put in this car just not this year remember we done the same thing the first year with the flatcad bonneville car and that was one of the best decisions we made in the beginning especially since none of us had ever been to bonneville lol same deal here I have made about 7 passes in the car and I have a few bugs to work out but the car runs straight and is very easy to drive here are some pics of the progress from the last few months

The pic above was right before the first pass at mokan test and tune

The next pic was at meltdown drags last weekend fortunately the photographer caught the one and only good launch lol. But never fear more to come in the future as I am able to tweak a few things to get it lined out stay tuned

Wow! looks great Randy :) But as Carl say, I aslo wander what those odd pices abowe the headers are!! Hard to tell, but are you using those crazy old heads with those so called rocker arms and push-rods ? ;)

  14. Hey Randy - really glad you got it together and are having some fun. As you noted, we took the same approach (or maybe GOD made us do it!) - and it was the smart thing to do with a new car, new type of racing (for us) and everything else. There is a LOT to shakedown on a new car - might as well have some simplicity somewhere in the deal. Also, you can continue to have fun while you sort out the FlatCad motor - taking your time to get it right and not be in a hurry. This is what happened to the FlatCad for Bonneville - and though we didn't originally plan it that way - was the RIGHT way to do it. Good luck and hope to see yah soon!

Well folks it’s been a real long time coming almost ten years but the blown Flatcad engine in Medusa finally is up and running I still have a bunch of things to tidy up but it runs and sounds pretty good next up is to get the Hilborn two port installed but I done a good 20 minute break in run with a carb and gasoline this is a milestone hopefully soon I’ll get to make a pass at the dragstrip

It is amazing what a person can get done if they stick with it. :) Congratulations. I am anxious to see it make a pass.

  17. Way to go Randy! With you getting your FlatCad running and with the ressurection of the FlatCad BVille Coupe, we should be ready to have some fun! I just got back to Ohio - so once I get the house/yard in order, will continue the build of the FlatCad BVille motor.

Looking forward to seeing you sometime soon and for racing together once again.

For those who are interested in our wild FlatCad Blown Alky Bonneville engine - and the build process, here is a link to where I've been documenting the complete engine build - it got to this stage right before Winter and now that I'm back in Ohio, we will move forward from here:
