Maybe the cam lobe is sitting to high and not allowing the rotor to seat all the way down?

Inside my NOS Mallory here under the cap there is a factory warning decal "Caution use proper rotor -4215
    Magneto-4215B
I think this is where the problem lies...

It doesnt say anything about a "C" suffix though..I never tripped on this before. You learn something new everyday...

On this Chevy Mallory its a YC and takes a plain 4215.Check the rotor itself to make sure it wasnt misboxed, that happens alot..I worked a parts counter for over a decade..

The number on the rotor matches the box.

Do you think it has anything to do with the gear I drilled the distributor for?

I drilled the distributor for the gear. Once I noticed the rotor hitting I tried pulling on the gear to see if it would move down but it wont?

No the distributor never had a gear. It had to be drilled for one.

My engine is a 59 390. Those distributors had gears. My 62 is the same way. It has a gear that is held onto the distributor shaft by a pin.

Something isnt jivin though.I still think the shaft is up too high causing the rotor to hit the cap.
