I am going to 12v and away from the hydraulic cyl. was hoping someone else had used universal power window kits to convert the 50's cadillacs.

found this direct replacement kit but for $1000 is it really worth it?

I replaced the Power window regulator in my wifes 03 durango, it was very simple and would bolt in easy, also it can clamp to any piece of gl***. its cost $49 per side. you would need to use your old switch.

    Hope that helped

The last power window swap I did was similar. I junk yarded a full set of power window parts, wiring, regulators, motors and switches from a 1971-76 Chevy Caprice/Impala 2 door. Olds, Pontiac, Buick or Cadillac should be the same. The geometry of the regulators should be close enough for a direct install or swap your Cad regulator arms onto the newer regulators. Lay them on the floor side by side and you can see the similarities. The newer (71-76) regulators have pretty much the same geometry as the older ones and there are pins holding the arms together that can be moved or changed for use on other GM doors or remove the arms and use the older Cad arms. It took me about an hour and a half to remove the parts and I think I paid about 75.00 for the whole mess (no gl***). Those motors produce good power for heavy gl*** like 2 door gl***, and you can even take them apart and lube and check the bushings.

Beware of smaller newer motors which may not hold up to or lift the weight of the older window gl***.

Hi Atomickustom, I have a 05 Dakota i recently had to replace the regulator in the front p*** door,i was impressed with how simple the regulator was,my motor was burned out and so was the switch in the door, that was a tough one to diagnose, the regulator comes with a new motor as well, price is good at 60.00 here in canada,i plan to try and use one in the back window of my 33 tudor, the motor only has 2 wires,it changes direction by the ground switching side to side, the factory switch might be hard to use as it has 8 terminals on it,my local dodge dealer keeps them in stock, said they sold 7 last month alone?.
