Did Caddy make a V12 flatty??? I thought they went from V12 and V16 OHV motors to the V8 flatty later on.
The 1953 Motors Manual lists a valve in block V 8 for 1935 at 248 CI for LaSalle, and 353 for Caddy. The V12 was OHV at 368 CI and the V16 comes in at 452 CI. The HP ratings for the above were 105, 120, 133, and 169.
O.K. heres the deal guys.I am no gear head for sure, but love a good rod.Currently own a 91 classy caddy and told someone of a model build I wanted to do using a lincoln flatty 12 but they told me they though that caddilac made one in the late 40's??So here I am asking if there is any info??If not, then i can contimue on with the original concept of the lincoln block. However, will still need info for that too??Thanks guys
Caddy offered a v12 and a v16 from 30 through 36. They were both overheads/. Cadillac flatty was a V8 Lincoln made the V12 flatty from 36 through 48. No Caddy V12's in the forties.
Thats what its looking like.Does anyone have any really good reference material for the lincoln flat head v-12??Like pics of ind. parts, close ups of block, maybe sizes??thanks guys
Foose just built one, dig a little on his http://rodandcustommagazine.com/eventcoverage/0608rc_2006_detroit_autorama_coverage/index2.html its been discussed plenty
I believe that this is all correct: Cadillac made an OHV V12 and an OHV V16 based on the same architecture (narrow angle V -- I think 60°) from '31 through '37. In '38 they dropped the V12, but offered a newly-tooled, wide angle (120°?) flathead V16 through '40. The number of all these models was extremely small. None of them reached 100 units in a single year, and the grand total of 12s and 16s for all years was probably less than 500. Cadillac never made a flathead V12, but Lincoln and Packard did. The only American V12 built post-WW2 was the Lincoln.
My bad. According to Wikipedia, the OHV engines were 45° V's, and the flatheads were 135°. Here's a picture of the flathead 16:
