  3. Oh hell man, use a ****ing muffin tin so you can have the faux performance look of multiple carbs.

That actually would be kick *** to have a 6 carb engine with a muffin pan air cleaner, if you could get the spacing right so each one would have a wing nut and stud.

As for a single 4, those late 50's and early 60's air cleaners aren't that hard to find and they have more shape/style than the blank cake pan. You might try shopping eBay or a junkyard for an actual air cleaner lid to use.

Well, maybe turned upside down over one of the smaller chrome air cleaner bases for a simple clean appearance but it's still a damned cake pan no matter what you do with it.
It might p*** muster if you had it powder coated though.

If you weld on it remove all of the coating or buy one without the coating. Teflon is deadly toxic when burned, major carcinogen.

If you grease the pan does it make the air go through it faster, increasing performance?

How about a dutch oven, might hurt weight transfer!!! Seriously I made one out of a stainless mixing bowl one time, looked really cool but damn near affixiated myself, not enough room to get air in. I did use 2 9 inch cake pans to make map pockets in the doors of my roadster and it works real well.

  24. I bought the air clearner off a '66 Riv for $50 off eBay. I jsut sanded it down and shot it with wrinkle paint. Fast and easy, probably paid too much, but I didn't have to put days into it.

Makes me want to bake an upside down cake in my air cleaner, this Caddy unit looks like it was made for it. Plus, it's already greased.

(Seriously though, the rippled one above doesn't look bad. But the plain one in question looks like a cake pan. I'm all for using unorthodox parts but only if they have style, not just for the sake of using them.)

  30. what you should of done is went ahead and made your aircleaner and then posted a couple pics of your engine , then the nay sayers would of been coool aircleaner wher'd you get that man, id like to have one of those ......then you spring it on them that its a cake pan

i myself dont care to much for the unsilenced aircleaners they look allright but they make everything sound like its got a quadrajet on it
