A firefighter friend said that if your house/structure has shrubs/trees/bushes right next to the walls there is a higher chance of it getting torched.
Some plants ignite just by the heat (like avocadoes) and if the fire is hot/high enough to start on the roof sill its over.
Brush fires needs kindling fuel to destroy houses.

I hope some folks are helped by this, I found following link on Google's Earth Community showing what's happening where in the SAN DIEGO-area in Google Maps...

Google Maps WILD FIRES-Link San Diego-area

Seems to be updated regularly and shows the various evacuation areas.
Good luck for those involved and stay safe!

I hear that Buck's main yard and house were spared but the "Chicken coupe" yard is most likely gone. It's hard to know for sure how bad it hit him at this point. Good luck to every one affected by this **** storm!

we got the all clear yesterday afternoon. we are as far south in carlsbad as you can go literally 10 yards from the encinitas line which had mandatory evacs, carlsbad only had voluntary evacs and the fire pretty much stayed south east of us so they dropped all the evacs for our area. the wind has backed off and is actually blowing on shore a little now instead of the 30+mph offshore/santa ana winds of the last couple of days. last i heard the witch fire was over 200,000 acres and i think they said 1300 homes/structures burned.
the big threat now seems to be the fallbrook fire as that is a very rural/hilly area and quite a few homes have already burned up there. a friend that's on the top of the hill the next town over says it's pretty much solid smoke outside and he can't even see clearly to the bottom of the hill a mile away when you can usually see 20+ miles from his place.

still thinking about alot of friends that might have lost there homes, i know there were several hambers in romona/escondido and surrounding areas that might not have a home to go back to. if you need anything don't be afraid to ask, we'll help in any way that we can.

Justin, I'm glad to hear you got the all clear and are out of danger.

I'm still worried for several other freinds out that way

stay safe all, we had the worst fires last summer {1000 000 hectares burnt}over here in Oz and we are in a major drought. So I feel for you guys, its not good......summer around the corner again, not looking forward to it....stay safe and if you gonna leave, get out early.we had some of your fire fighters{USA}come all the way over here and help out last summer....I wish we could repay that and send our guys to you:confused: ..Bert
