calif. license plate width?

does anybody know the width of 1947 california license plates? im wanting to narrow a kaiser bumber guard to fit closer to the license plate. i have the bumper guard but dont have the '47 plates yet. thanks.

 

I have 1951 plates, I believe they are the same as the 47's but I'm not 100% sure.
The plate size is 14 1/8" X 6 1/4". I measured the plates with chrome frames on them so allow +- 1/16"
