  1. since all of this came out, i've been wondering....

how are they going to bust violators?

i mean, are they going to go door to door for every registration and inspect every vehicles?

i think that this really is a big to-do over nothing.

    HAD a terrible smog problem.

HAD a terrible smog problem, restrictive emissions laws have eased the smog problem.

CA does not have the most restrictive gun laws, or the worst gun violence.

  4. First, our rights are not given by a "God" but by our governement, as are all other countires. One we all elect. Second, seems to me you live in some backwater area that cares not for the condition of our air or the natural piece and quiet (no emissions, no mufflers.) There is no natural right to own assault rifles, nor is there an actual need to own one. If your aim is so bad you cannot hit a danger with one or two rounds that you need the ability to spray hundreds at a time, well, maybe you should get some lessons instead. I own firearms and the idea that I had to wait 15 days is not such a big deal, unless I wanted to rob a liquor store in the afternoon. And to have just anyone walking around with a weapon in their pocket deosn't sound all that safe either.

And we do not have saftey inspections, and we do not have to have emissions on vehicles 1975 and older, so I doubt if we are so limited by hippies here. In addition, Californian has 4 times the amount of people than your state, so statistics are skewed.

Hmmm, what is the sound of a Thread closing?

Tax revenues do play a big part of the first posts, I wonder if the B-J auctions and the like, have shown the appraising potential, and been the catalyst here.

  6. Before my soapbox collapses beneath me, I do suggest you joining SEMA's Action Network. You will be kept apprised of such changes taken by government and also have the ability to feed opinion to the lobbyist that work for the industry. They often have prepared letters to send in response to actions taken, list of who are your government officials responsible and a provide a united front of large numbers which is what it takes to get noticed.

  7. So not true. It is a NON_profit organization set up to provide help the industry prosper and aid the end user in enjoying their hobby. Honestly, this is what SEMA is all about. It would not benefit anyone to have unjust restrictions on any part of the market segment.

Jesus Christ man, do you even read the shit you post?

I'm GLAD you live in CA, because I don't want you spreading your stupidity to any currently uninfected states.

The Gov't gives us our rights? Really!?!

Try reading the fucking Constitution some time.

People like you are how a free country becomes a totalitarian one.

Our GOVERNMENT wrote the constitution, and our GOVERNMENT enforces it. Perhaps you should reconsider your thoughts...

Those rights were not etched in stone tablets on a mountain in the middle east. It was written (for the most part) by Thomas Jefferson, and ratified by the 13 original colonies (states) by their representatives. Those rights can change thru a vote of Congress and as voted upon as necessary by the states. So yes, our government gives us our rights. Go to China or Mexico and see how many 'God given rights' you have.

Your rights do not extend to the automobile. Each state allows you to drive as a priviledge and not a right. The states own your drivers license and can suspend or revoke those priviledges as they see fit. The same is true for the license plate on your vehicle. They can be pulled at the request of your DMV.

  14. I did read the constitution, that is exactly my point. We did not have those rights until a government was formed to ensure them. And who maintains our government? The populace who elects the current one. (populace is you, just in case you did not know) That has been one of my points all along, quit bitchin and do something, get involved - know who and what you are voting for.
And just as an aside, please point out where in the constitution is states one is allowed to drive a vehicle spewing smoke out into air? Vehicle ownership is not a right, it is a privilege.
    A totalitarian government....really?

According to The Tax Foundation, California recieves about 78 cents of federal spending for every one dollar of federal tax collected (and dropping every year).

For those of you whom hate California, can we have our money back?

North Carolina recieves $1.08 for every dollar of federal tax (and rising every year). Your welcome.

Dude, last time I checked we were ALL driving vehicles spewing smoke out into the air. Unless you're riding a bicycle. And for your information, we ALWAYS had those rights. Like the Constitution says, these are rights given to us by GOD. Just because they wrote it down on paper doesn't mean the gov't gave them to us. WE, THE PEOPLE OF THE UNTIED STATES OF AMERICA are to ensure those rights are never taken away, not the gov't. That's what the second ammendment of the constitution is for, that is to guarantee those rights aren't taken away. Read what the framers of the constitution actually wrote.

I'm sorry I ever posted in this thread. I'm sorry that there's people who know so little of our history and our constitution as to allow the infringements of MY (and everybody else's) personal freedoms and liberties by an overzealous government that would love to legislate everything you do and love.

This thread has gone full retard.

Sales taxes are paid by the end user. If you buy a part for your car, you pay the sales tax as the end user. But if a shop is building you a hot rod, everything they buy is exempt from sales tax (yes, even in MI). The person you sell the car to is responsible for the tax.

If you run a body shop, the body shop does not pay sales tax to the dealer or other parts supplier. They collect the sales tax at the end of the repair (end user) and is paid by the owner or the insurance company.

This is why Boyd was busted. He wasn't collecting the correct sales tax. At 8% sales tax in CA (is this right?) on a $150K car, the sales tax would be $12K.

  18. Spewing is a word used to interject a description of over abundance, such as vehicles not tuned or controlled to emit emissions that are reasonable.
I will not go into the difference of rights and privilege, you obviously do not know, as well as ignorance to the cause and effect of government.
Terd, you have now said something that has a tinge of intelligence, yet grammatically incorrect and somewhat insensitive, this thread is full retard.

I deleted it..because i didnt want to write a half page desortation on the inss and outs of what i tried to say with as few words as possible, and given the knowledge of what we all know, i didnt want to have to continue to explain every word i said or typed. Or have it picked apart by every T D And H for verifiability

lets just agree its bullshit, and someone is getting a pat on the back for keeping 10 cars off the street..its not like these are production vehicles were talking about here..just some entity probably the feds are bummed out so much so they had to find a way to fuck the little guy too. In the end, its about how far they can bend you over.

So now it's down to personal attacks, is it? That's what usually happens when someone is losing an argument. And the grammatically correct phrase is "gone full retard" as in "Never go full retard. Everybody knows that. Ask Shawn Penn. I Am Sam, 2001.". I'm not necessarily overly concerned about being sensitive towards your feelings with my use of the term "full retard" in describing what this thread has devolved into.

I don't "spew" any more smoke into the air (as you put it) with no mufflers than you do with them. Mufflers only quiet the sweet awesome sound coming from my engine. Duh.

This is now just silly and pointless. But I'm bored and can keep it up as long as you feel like it.

  23. the Constitution of the United States of America ESTABLISHES and LIMITS the scope of the FEDERAL government.

the government did not establish the constitution. its the other way around.

this is a state issue and has nothing to do with anything but money.

and yes, car ownership IS a right. the right to private property. DRIVING is a PRIVILEGE.

you can own as many of whatever cars you want, but the state of california does have the authority to regulate wether or not it is lawful for that vehicle to be operated on public roads. this is nothing new.

crying about it will achieve NOTHING.

The state just wants their sales tax. What's so hard to understand. Lansing is no different. look how many times the state and Granholm have attempted to collect sales tax for purchases out-of-state. They realized there was a loop hole and the state is closing the loop hole. At least their is an amnesty.

As for the newer cars, I can tell you there are was around the power issue using CARB parts. I don't hear too many people who live there screaming over this. Know the rules and go from there. Some parts just may cost a little more.

Let's make this part clear, CA is currently awesome for traditional hot rodding. Absolutely no doubt about that. It would take a lot to ruin it, but let's stay aware and smart to keep it that way. As usual, don't lie about what you are building and don't cheat on your taxes and you should be ok. If you build a car with most all new parts, it's a new car and needs to titled as such. Us real legal '32 VIN critical parts if you want a titled '32. If you take a Brookville body and put it on a handmade frame, sorry, that is not a legal '32 as much as some mike like it to be. Maybe be happy they don't make you crash test it and put airbags in it as well. Just build it with a 'clean enough' motor, but title it as 2010 and do it the way it should be done anyway. This is hot rodding. We know how to work on/swap motors. Fill in the blanks.

If anyone is interested (and you should all be) check out Michael Badnarik on youtube, (also websites) he has a wonderful 8 hour instruction( 8 one hr segments) on the Constitution and bill of rights and a section on certificates of titles and vehicle registration. Learn the facts on our rights and liberties that are being stripped from us every day. See how the state has an equal share in the ownership of our vehicles and properties that we all THOUGHT we were the sole owner of. I urge every American to learn and study about how our founding fathers fought to bring us this REPUBLIC we live in.
