    hey all,
I'm building a 1929 ford model A and the frame is so rusted and pitted that I can't see the numbers. Are there any suggustions? Is registering as a kit car another option? Thanks! ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1405708623.643559.jpg

Do not register it as a kit. Look harder for the #s. Don't they bring out numbers on guns with acid or something. Gets some #s someplace. Get creative.

  3. Last thing you want to do is let DMV assign a number. Try this:
look for a number on the top frame rail near the emergency brake cross bar.

The engine # was also added to the frame on the passenger side under the floor boards in front of the forward running board bracket

DO NOT go the kit car route, you will be amazed what the CA DMV can come up with along that road.
Try and find a # on the frame, and use it. If you can find a cut up used up frame with paperwork or numbers on it make those numbers appear on your frame.

    That's a felony in California.

The numbers are there. Keep cleaning.

If you absolutely can not find a number. Get an engine block with a good number for the year you have. You should be able to use it but always keep the block.

check stock Model A sites for more info on numbers. also, contact someone, like Donna Leek - pro.reg.service@gmail .com, who help register classic rides

  8. option 1: do a web search and figger out how to get the numbers visible without scuffing them away (there is an acid technique which i don't know). also look for coca cola rust removal (which is basically acid, sugar and caramel coloring). once visible, verify their validity through your local AAA office. you do have AAA don't you?

Option 2: BUY ANOTHER FRAME WITH NUMBERS. and then sell yours to get your money back.

NOT OPTIONAL: use a titling service to get it done for you. if you or a DMV employee misstep, and it gets into the system, it will cause you immeasurable headaches.

  9. i used a title service in california for my 46 teardrop and it was money well spent! hanging at the DMV sucks!

  10. If you are using a banger, AAA will ID the car by that engine number.
    I have done it.
Once that is established, you may mark ID numbers on your frame. This is from CHP, "you can mark numbers on your frame, doors, glass, anywhere you want. You just can't alter the original ones".
    Good luck.
