Yes, please someone take photos and document the day. when we did StinkyFingers we had DirtyT's laptop and posted photos throughout the day. Folks seemed to really enjoy the "semi" live feel.

A few hints from a food perspective:

Plan on needing four coolers, one with bottled water, one with pop/soda, both regular and diet, one with beer and one for all the food.

Plan on three "meals". Folks will start showing up early and sometimes with an empty stomach.

Pick up donuts, plan on 2 apiece. Some will each more, some won't even eat one. They will munch on them till they are gone. Have coffee. Don't forget the cups, sugar and creamer.

Noon-ish meal, keep it simple, you don't want to waste too much time cooking and eating. Burgers, dogs and a few different kinds of chips. Kinda a light lunch. You don't want these guys sleepy and needing a nap. Don't forget the condiments.

Keep the chips out all day with a couple kinds of filling dips. Also, maybe some cookies or something else sweet. A mid-day sugar rush is always a good thing. We had a huge bowl of Halloween candy on the table along with cookies.

Dinner-time, sausages and/or chicken, something more filling like that. Serve potatoe salad, macaroni salads, baked beans which can be heated on the grill in a large pot. Don't forget large serving spoons.

Beside Costco, which I LOVE, I also found great savings/volume packaging at Gordon Food Service. Not sure if you have them there or not. No membership needed.

Don't forget plates, napkins, and folks.:D

Wish I was there, I LOVE planning food/parties.

  2. A good video to watch is the Mad Fabricator's where they chop the shoebox. They do a nice job and keep the stock window.
You seem pretty well prepared. Good luck and have a great time!

Finished? It seems like I'll never finish mine!

MercMan1951 and I did the body work on it after the chop and I drove it all summer. It made it to Autorama "Xtreme" and Billetproof. I'm still working on it though. I just replaced the front floorboards and put in a steering column from a '60 Biscayne. I still don't have any side glass... well, not installed yet. I got a lot farther to go. I'm planning on bagging it real soon.

i am in for sure. i cancelled my trip with the family for that weekend so i will be there for sure. you should post a list of things you dont have or things that you might need more of. im sure everyone would be willing to bring any tools they have to help out. or if someone has a shitload of grinding/sanding disks or whatever that we might run out of. i can bring my air compresser so we could run more air tools at the same time.

denise, those are all very good ideas for the food and drinks.

I just saw the post from the HAMB Chop '05. Norm, we have to have a shirt to commorate this event. I am pretty sure those that are going to be there would love to have something from this too. I know that there are a couple of fellow HAMB'rs that can make that possible that do silk screening on shirts here. If any one of you on the HAMB do just that, please step up and make yourself known. I will post this elsewhere on the HAMB too. Cannot wait to watch this HAMB chop! KNUX!

One more thing that I just thought of. Two full days were planned for Stinkyfingers chop. On Saturday about 50 guys showed up. Not everyone that wanted to work actually got the chance. Lots of bodies with "nothing" to do but watch and learn.

On Sunday about 8 guys showed up. Point being, if you even think this is going to go two days perhaps plan, for lack of a better term, who's skills and knowledge might be better put to use on Sat and who's skills and knowledge on Sunday.

Guys later stated that if they would have known fewer bodies showed up on Sunday they would have made plans to attend on Sunday instead of Saturday knowing they would have been able to participate more.

  7. Yeah, good point. And you should plan on two days fer sher.

  8. Or three days;)

  9. I dont want to push anyone for more days. If its possible, even better I would say.

Hotrodladycrusr - I love the ideas. I didnt think of it that way. Simple and to the point, but effective. What would really make the event is a plate full of cookies for desert after dinner

Ya never know what might show up....I do have your address ya know.;)

  11. Yeah, it did spend monday darkening your door didn't it? :) Man, I still owe you! I still remember how freakin COLD it was when I drove that thing home with no windshield or nuthin'... with the tail lights gaff taped to the fenders! The trunk kept flying open so I took a roll of gaff tape and taped the damn thing shut. Ha! I got some looks on the road. I kept banging my head on the roof getting in and out, too. Good times.:)

Wow, I'm impressed at how everyone is jumping in to help someone else chop their car! Way cool!

Does anything like this ever happen in the Detroit area, I'd love to come and, if nothing else, watch! I've been trying for years, there don't seem to be any places around here where I can learn to work with metal, so I'm down for any chance I have to watch someone else and learn!

  13. Sure. There are a bunch of links to a chop that was done here about 5 posts up. Other than that, just keep an eye out on the board because every now and then guys will post about a thrash they're doing and usually a bunch of regulars will show up.

That being said, Aaron51chevy and I are talking about doing a thrash to install a 9inch in his rear and a 4 link with bags in mine. Say, you don't happen to have a large, heated garage do you? Neither one of us does! :D

Sorry to hijack, back to our regularly scheduled program.

Haha, my cars aren't even stored indoors, so, unfortunately, that's a no on the garage. Wish I could help. I don't even own much in the way of tools- all my $$$$ goes into keeping my Chryslers semi-roadworthy. Argh!

Yes, sorry for going O/T, please proceed as usual....

DirtyT was talking about getting a building/garage somewhere. Perhaps PM or call him and see if he did yet and if it could be used.

    Hey,

Have ya got any steel square tubing, or pipe, to brace the body
tub, prior to cuttin the turret top from the A & B-posts? Some
shoeboxes get purty floppy if not well braced. Better safe than
spending an afternoon havin'to close door gaps with a come-a -
    long, and chain.

I'll be there! Got my kitchen pass. My forte is, custom work with sheet metal, patch panels and im a really good mud slinger,(finishing work). so if i fit the bill i wanna participate. A suggestion would be, (looking at Denise's advice), to maybe "tagteam" it so everyone wanting to participate can get some work in, and enjoy grub and a little break too. Thats my thought.
"Scott" really wants to come but dosnt know if he can breakaway that day, and i'm going to try and commute some more AV desert HAMBers to caravan your way.
Sounds like it's gonna be a hell of a great time
I'll call you before the date and see whats still being needed.
This'll be way cool, cant wait.

  19. Hip...come on down, any and all hands are welcome.

Pimpin...I got Bleeds all time secret bracing material...."Conduit"...and plenty of it. :) Got it coverd, and thanks for the suggestion.

As for a heater, Ill try to get my hands on a "Smudge Pot" to warm up the outside. I got an indoor heater if needed, small, but slightly effective.

I also could get my hands on a portable fire pit. S-mores on an open flame...mmmmmm!

  22. Update: as for the shirts...i got a cool design waiting for approval.

When it passes inspection, ill post a pict.

  23. Update #2:

I am also working on setting up a web cam or two on the chop and one for the "Party/hang out" area for everyone to see.

If anyone has any ideas on Free Web Cam hosting sites...that would be helpful

    Thanks

    Hey Norm,
I Will bring A bunch of 4-1/2" grinding discs thick and thin, and 80 & 120 grit flap discs that are all on 5/8-11 hubs. We use them at work and they leave a clean finish. Even if I possibly get skunked with soccer dad duty I will bring them to the Village this Tuesday so you'll have them in advance. I'm looking forward to it as I will be taking a little off the top of my wifes Hudson in the near future.

    See you Tuesday Joe
