Hey gang, Can anyone help me identify a color code/mfg as close as possible to Larry Watsons "Lime Gold". The color he painted David Martins '29 Roadster. Going through HOK's pallet is like a bad acid trip and the only other thing I found, that's close, is GM's War Bonnet Yellow. Any help is super appreciated.. Here is the roadster he painted.
I used House of Kolor Lime Gold candy on my Mysterion clone which acted like the original looked. Supposedly this paint comes out slightly lime like your picture over silver base but lemon yellow over a white base as I used on my car. The examples you find on a Google search definitely look lime but my car using it definitely is lemon yellow. https://custompaintworld.com/products/house-of-kolor-lime-gold-kandy
Larry used to mix his own custom colors from binders, with transparent toners, and pearls, or flake. You'll have to look through lots of color charts to find something that fits your taste. A problem we ALL have when choosing a color for our car!
X38 great matches. Psycho Deville, my guess is Watson just sprayed until he liked it, mixing his own. The challenges on a color like that is the reference pic itself, light it was shot in etc. My advice would be to pick a color from X38's list, shoot it over different base colors (white, silver) and different number of coats until you get the color you like. Lot of test panels, using a factory color so you can replicate it on a larger scale. Other path is to choose a pearl or candy and shoot that over different bases, this is much more finicky as each pass builds color depth, you gotta be a damn good painter not to to tiger stripe it or have color variation especially around edges and jambs, if you ever have an incident the entire car will likely need to be reshot.
Thanks so Much Indy! I picked up a color that I thought best resembled his Lime Gold. It's an industrial base/clear. I took all the chips outside and settled on this one. I think with the grey primer/sealer it will give me the results I'm looking for
Is that a solid colour? None of the colours that have been posted are solid colours they are all a metallic. I would almost guarantee Larry's was as well.
