A big thankyou to all those Hambers that have posted pictures of this years PASO. The turn out looked incredible , when we started playing with trad rods in the 80's people over here thought it was a rebellious phase that would just be a trend and go away. It started to regain popularity around the same time with you guys again over there and I guess the 'shiny' brigade thought and probably hoped it would also be a p***ing trend. How wrong they all are !! It just goes from strength to strength. Traditional cars account for about 50% of our hobby here in the U.K. , I wonder how our hobby would have faired if they hadnt come back in to style.. This can only be positive for the hobby in general as long as the standards are kept up. Whats the general view on here about some of the more dubious cars Ive seen? Someone said they get refered to as ; Death rods? or Rust rods? Is this right?

[/ QUOTE ] A couple of rods p***ed us on the way home, not a speck of paint on them, total Patina and inches of the ground. Well, I can tell you first hand the motors were in total tune, there were no bouncing front ends or wobbly wheels. They ran straight as an arrow. That just shows one can't judge a car, or people for that matter, solely by how they look.
No , absolutely , I agree. Some cars though arent particularly well put together and some of the parts look a little worn !
Dare I say it RAT RODS there I said it. Some people just don't care for other's safety on the road's. I've seen some pic's of some scary **** people are driving.
Quote from two "older guys" waiting for sat nite bands to start. "when I go to a good guys event I am afraid this is going to die out with us, nothing but perfect fibergl*** stuff from trailers, but when I come here I get refreshed, seeing all these young guys with cars just like they used to be, these guys are building and constantly working on their cars." his friend said "Yeah it makes me feel good knowing these guys are going to carry this on." I smiled and made more mental plans for the old car in my driveway, and the design of the uph I'm gonna s***ch up for my 40.
Some of the so-called rat rods are the best thought-out and engineered cars around - once you get past the rust and really look.
absolutely right , I should add that some so called 'hi-tech' **** certainly aint !! A pro builder over here became famous for his ****ing awful engineering on cars that were supposed to be 'state of the art' , they were ****ing embarr***ing ! Needless to say he isnt a pro-builder anymore !
Nuthin', but nuthin' can beat good engineering and engineering principals. Call 'em what you like (I prefer 'Hot Rods', old style flavoured), fashion, fad or fancy, a correctly engineered vehicle is the coolest of all! Get to know your Ackerman angles, scrublines and know that no kind of leaking fliud lines should be tolerated. All welds should have good penetration (ask a Gurrrl!), old tyres for show only and mail box windows should have good lines of vision. Don't fool your self, you won't fool a real Hot Rodder. End of sermon.
