I've given up on shiney bits--too much work. my wife once offered to polish as much shiney stuff as I'd put on a car and then promptly renigged--glad I didn't fall for it. this one will be all painted--no shiney stuff here.

if you find anyone building header's let me know--I've only seen a few vintage pairs over the years--kick myself for not buying the when I had the chance.

Here are some pics of the original 365 in a 57 cad that got this last summer. The first shot is the motor the day I brought the car home, the other pics are ones I took of the motor today just because I saw this thread, great thread too!

When installing a 331 flywheel on a 390, are there any balance issues?
331 Internal balance, 390 external? Is this correct?

Is that '57 pump one yr only? Is that why you sent it out? Or do you recommend this as an upgrade for all the early cad (331, 365, 390) pumps? I'm workling on a '56 365 right now.

A killer cad for me is 390 DRE 2x4, Spalding Flamethrower, 5 speed and soon some worked over heads and roller cam. I'm close to firing it up in a couple of weeks just before the body goes on for the last time. I'll nickle plate the VC's later.[/QUOTE]

You say 5 speed? I have a '56 Cad 365 I plan to put in my '29 Tudor. How do I put 5 gears behind it. I've read about the Bendetson and Wilcap GM 4spd and auto adapters and I know about the old Cragar to Ford 4spd adapter. Also heard a guy on here went adapter to adapter to trans to achieve a 5th gear. Is there a cleaner way and what trans are you running? Maybe I just haven't been talking to the right people.

not exactly sure about balance issuses, I didn't make it that far before I bailed on the 331 flywheel, BUT I do know starter is an issue 6 v and 12 v have different tooth counts. I went with a wilcap flywheel and eliminated the headaches I was having

wilcap makes an adapter 365/390 to ford 5 speed direct. the other option is to go from an older 4 speed bellhousing to a 5 speed conversion. they'er available from lots of early mustang outfits. I have one of these and thought about it, but have decided I'd rather go the cleaner one conversion route and will eventually be going with the wilcap setup.

Not sure if anyone mentioned them yet, but CadCo. Out of Albuquerque, NM (previously flashcraft inc) has well rounded experience on cads. From post war era caddy flatties, to the present. If im not mistaken, they provide parts for 314 up to the 500's and can make something if needed. I kno i couldnt be happier with my 8.2 ltr.

    Any updates here?

I am planning on rebuilding my '59 390 as soon as I sell my other Cad. I already have a set of original Offy rocker covers and a genuine 3x2 inlet. Planning on an Isky 256H or 262H as well as a little bit of tidying up on the heads and some port matching. Nothing crazy, just want an authentic 60's mild V8 in my otherwise stock '59 so everyone gets shocked when I lift the hood.

I am in the process of sourcing the 3x2 carb setup currently (waiting for quotes).

Thinking about trying something different with the exhaust. I would love to get in a crossover pipe somewhere up front, but the X frame makes it impossible so I am thinking of running 2 1/4" pipes off the manifolds through a couple of Hooker Maximum Flow mufflers, and then merge the twin pipes into a single 3" pipe over the diff and through a 3" resonator. I am hoping for a nice deep & mellow tone.

It is more of a cruiser than a racer, so not looking to spend much time at 5000rpm.

To top it off I am thinking of painting it VHT Burnt Copper so you can't miss it in the black engine bay!
