Does anyone have experience with running a cam driven water pump on the street? There are various types available, I was looking at a 'marine' type. Anything? The good, the bad and the ugly? Thanks.
I should clarify..... I'm looking for info on the pumps that would be mounted on the timing cover, similar to a Hilborn or Enderle fuel pump, and driven by the cam. Seeing as this will be spinning at half of engine speed, does anyone have input on the efficiency at low rpm's. I have heard that they work well in marine applications but those would be typically operating at a much higher rpm range than a driver. I know that Speedway and MSD make the style of pump I'm asking about, but wondered if anyone had experience outside of marine and sprint applications.
The engine combo is: 392, 6-71, moderate cam (492ish lift), ported steel heads. Car will be open motored, hanging in the wind and will never be closed in. I know the pumps work well at a higher rpm range, I was just curious about lower 'street' rpm's.
