Cam & Roller lifter help needed

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by GasserTodd, Mar 5, 2010.

  1. Hi,

Are roller lifters different from hydraulic roller lifters? And if they are, can I run a roller cam with hydraulic roller lifters?

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but I couldnt find the answer.

    Thanks in advance,
    Todd

  2. You cant run hyd lifters on a roller cam due to the cam profile.

  3. Thanks.

I would have thought that as both solid roller lifters and hydraulic roller lifters have rollers on the base, that it shouldnt make any difference. But then, my new engine isnt running well.....

  4. Ah shit i didnt read it properly. Dont listen to what I said, i am full of shit.

I'm no expert but I thought it's the other way around. You can run solid rollers on a hydraulic roller cam but the profiles of solid roller cams are a bit much for hydraulic roller lifters. Someone will surely confirm or correct...

  6. Well you cant use hydraulic roller lifters with a solid roller cam.

A sad lesson to learn, but maybe somebody else can learn from my mistake

  7. Solid cams have a gradual take up ramp that would open the valves really early if hydraulics were used on it. Conversely; if you put solids on a hydraulic there would be no take up ramp and the valve train would be crashing into itself all the time.

  8. To answer the question...ROLLER lifters come as EITHER solid OR hydraulic, but BOTH are "Roller" lifters...
