Looking for some cam suggestions for my nova, weighs in at around 3300 lbs with me in it, it has a 350 sbc with cast flat tops and stock heads with a 750dp and a performer rpm intake, long tubes with gl*** packs and nothing else, th350 with a 3k stall and 3.73 gears I believe. This is just to tie me over until my other drivetrain is finished.
1st thing I would do is not use a double pumper unless that's all I had. Then you gotta do what you need to. I usually use a split cam for an application like yours. I like a .435-.460 lift with around 260 duration. You can get a kit from Compe***ion Products that will have the matching springs. Has a nice idle and makes good torque. I used a similar cam in an Elcamino that ran mid 8's in the 1/8th and towed my 3700 lb. 70 Malibu to the track.
Call the cam mfg. you like and ask them. You will get as many suggestions as threads on here. And when will your other drive train be done? I agree with the ditch the DP I would go a step further and put a 600-650cfm vac. sec. Pat
Q-jet...unless you own an oil well Oh, the cam ..Why use a 50 something year old grind? Talk to Chris Padgitt at Bullet.
The Lunati VooDoo 268/276 is a killer little cam. Will work well with the other stuff you have. I installed one in a 327 in a 63 Nova.... Ran real strong and was quite drivable.
I think they are called the "blueprint" series. Crane is one. Rhoads lifters have a slight "tickety tick" sound, a little like a solid lifter sounds.
Call Jerry Cantrell at Schneider Cams. Tell him your needs and he will grind the perfect cam for the same price as shelf , compromise , cam from others. I've only been using their stuff since '65 without problems on my own project and my customers projects. I have sinned a couple of times and used other cams and was never satisfied. Jerry will ask many questions to ensure that your cam matches your needs. After 53 years using their stuff (and sometimes going VERY fast as well) no complaints from me or my customers. His number is (619) 297-0227. If you talk to him, tell him the deuce guy from Tehachapi sent you. Good luck
I have this cam in my car, 355 SBC with 64cc Dart aluminum heads and matching air gap intake, 700 Holley which I need to jet down. CR is 9.75:1, flat top Speedpro pistons, 3.89 rear and 4-speed with 2.52 1st gear. Good street manners and a fairly good idle.
