Working on the 59 apache with a camaro clip. its a GenIV 454 and the alternator brackets and the a/c brackets were hard to find. (got them). Now the issue is the pulley from the power steering does not allow enough room for the original steering box from the camaro to be used. Wondering what anybody has done for this. Wil the vega steering box be strong enough for the weight of the motor? can i or is there a way to use this configuration?
I have a 79 Trans Am clip in my 55 with an 89 5.7 with the serpentine belt setup. My PS pulley was hitting the steering box also so I moved the motor mount brackets back 3/4" and welded them down.
The smaller 605 steering gear may give you some clearance. The 605 box was used on GM metric stuff after 78. Some of them may have different fittings so hoses may have to be changed.
Saginaw TC pump (Type II): W/attached resivoir: Later Jeep Cherokee is a common donor. The pump is popular with roundy-round guys, so there are a ton of configuration options. Flows enough for a 605/625, etc. Long: http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/Big_Block_Long_Pump.htm Short: http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/Big_Block_Short_Pump.htm Two heights, for each of the two pumps.
