I've bought a 56 truck that's has a Camaro front clip and 10" rear end. How do I find out the year of each one? Your help is appreciated

I think the 67,68,69 is rear steer,70-79 front steer with 2 piston caliper, after that think calipers are small one piston.

  3. IIRC, pre 70 Camaro stubs use a "double" crossmember and are rear steer as George pointed out. Nova stubs are rear steer up through 73, I believe.

Did you mean "10 bolt" rear? There are 2 main variations. If the cover is almost perfectly round, it's an "early" 10 bolt. If it has a squared off cover, it's more likely a 78 and up "metric" axle.

Pictures of the clip and steering box location will help identify the clip. Picture of the rear end cover will help identify the rear.

67-69 camaro and 68-74 nova are rear steer. Later are front steer.

There are at least three variants of the 10 bolt rear. Early ones were the 8.2", starting around 71 they got the 8.5". The 7.5" was not used in cars that had front subframes.

  6. 70 to 72 camaro clips have different size upper control arm bushings. 73 to 81 are the same size.

Your illustrations helped a great deal. I have an 8.5" 10 bolt with 41 teeth on the ring and 17 on the pinion. Any idea what this might have come out of? Maybe a truck?? thanks for your help.

There will also be an axle code on the top of one of the housing tubes near the center chunk. That could help figure out the origins, because I'll bet they both came from the same car.

  16. 2.41 is a highway gear. It probably came out of the same Camaro/Firebird the front clip did. Is it 61" or so wide?
