I recently purchased a 59 apache short bed. With so much information on the truck it can get confusing to make the best choices. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to do 2 things to the truck ASAP. first is to lower the car I LIKE IT LOW. Flip the back and get a drop axle from Sid. Second is to put a new rear end on. I would like to use disc brakes for the back and try to grab this in one rear end. Posi and good gearing. Has any one used a Camaro rear end ? if so what year works? I have posted pictures and will keep them coming as the truck evolves. Any other advice would be great.Thank You!
From memory a 69 camaro rear end is about 57" wheel surface to wheel surface, those rears are pricey, unless you want an 8.2 open highway gear. The 1976 style nova has an 8.5" rear that's 1 inch wider and less costly. If it were mine i'd check fox body mustang 8.8 rear ends, pretty narrow, easy to find, lots of aftermarket support and many will have a posi and decent gear set up in them already.
nice truck...try a dropped axle in front, I went the lowering springs way and wasn't too happy with it.
Subscribed! I just started a 59 Apache project myself. Truck looks good and will be better lowered for sure.
