I had been told that a 75 camaro rear end would fit in a 58 chevy apache and i have since desided to go that route but i am wondering where the camaro rearend sits on the springs will it still work without modifying the frame for clearence and how much will it lower the rear end of the truck? Then after that what would be the easiest way to lower the front too? the rear end is a chevy 10 bolt 8.5" and i will be running a 235 with a sm420 4speed.
We just put a 82 camaro rear in a 58 chevy pickup... I welded up new spring saddles and it worked great. For the front you can run a dropped axle from droppedaxles.com (Sid) or you could clip it. Ours was clipped with a camaro clip when we got it.
You will need to change the spring perches to do the job correctly. I have one from a '77 under my Apache SWB and had to widen my wheel tubs two inches to fit the tires we wanted on the truck. We are running 275-60-15 tires on Cragar 15x8 rims. The ride height should stay the same unless you remove spring leafs or use lowering blocks.
Chief im have a set of 295/50/15 running on a set of 15x10 ansens while my truck is a step side will my tires fit in the factory fenders
the camaro is perfect for these trucks. I put one in mine i put it on top of the springs i also removed 3 or four spings out of the pack to soften the ride little bit. It lowered it about 5 inches i would say. Look at my thread and you can see what one looks like under it. I believe my wheel are 15x7s on the back with pretty much centered backspace.
