I have a 28 Ford coupe w/sbc(283), 4 speed and a GM 8.2 w/ 2.73 gears(no cajones). I don't have the money to convert to a better axle and have it cut to fit so I am stuck with the 8.2. My question is what do you guys think of putting in a ring gear spacer and going to steeper 3 series gears? I won't be doing banzai starts or using slicks. Thanks - Jerry
i know of a couple that were footbraking cars with spacers ...one was doing some mid 1.40's 60'.... once , even with the 2 step turned up at 4800... it was definently a fun ride...
it should hold, you will want a posi if you start to pegleg it to much, if not you will toast the spider gears!
another option, look for a saginaw 4 speed with the 3.31 first gear ratio. they are usually pretty cheap when you find them
