Last night I was in my garage working on the Special. I was underneath the car dorking around with the tranny linkage when I hear a truck pull up in front of my house. This isn't unusual as the landscaping guys that cut my across-the-street neighbor's yard like to park their truck in my yard for some reason.

I continue to fight with the stupid lever when I hear somebody call out. I can't see much, just a pair of boots towards the rear of the car. I was already annoyed as it was several thousand degrees in my garage and I was tired of squishing spiders, and having to squirm out from under the car when it was so tough to get under it in the first place annoyed me more.

"Whats up man," I said, to the guy. I saw in the distance that he had a mid 80's truck pulling a flatbed trailer that had several old appliances on it. I knew instantly that he was a junk collector. I don't have a problem with that normally.

"I'll make a deal with ya," the guy says, "I'll give ya 300 bucks and get these two clunkers outta here for ya." WTF???

"No thanks man." I turned back to get back to what I was doing.

"What? Okay, $400, $200 a piece and I haul this old junk away." I know not everyone is into old cars, and mine aren't pretty at the moment, but calling them "junk" pissed me off. I tried to keep cool though.

"I wouldn't sell them if you offered me 10 times that. The Buick has a running Nailhead, that alone is worth more than $400."

"Looks like junk from where Im standin" he said.

"Then go stand somewhere else," I said, raising my voice some.

    "Okay, how about -"

I cut him off at this point, shouting that if he didn't get the f**k of my driveway I was going to kick his ass over his shoulder. Even started walking towards him. He quickly tucked the tail between his legs and drove off.

For reference, here are the two cars in my garage. And me.

Thanks for listening to my rant. I feel a bit better now.

    Wow, what a dick.

    It is kinda funny though.

Never underestimate the sneakiness of the Jawas. We've had to chase them off. Now we have them trained to only take stuff that is out by the street. :D

    I'll give ya $500 :D

Had some non-auto steel disappear from my driveway so I set a trap on a weekday that I would be home. Put a bunch of old steel parts right outside my garage and waited. Sure enough, he showed up and we had a "little talk". Haven't seen him since.

Those scrap guys are getting really pushy nowadays, that guy must of been a moron to think that somebody would have sold what is apparently a project in the garage and not some rusted mess sitting in a field.

umm. wow. my patience would have gone about as far as yours too.

  14. I think I would have said something like "what kind of fool are you? Obviously one too stupid to know when he has something that's worth a fuck of a lot more than scrap money, I'd punch you in the head but if I wanted to rattle your brain I'd have to kick you in the ass... which isn't a bad idea if you don't get the hell out of here like 30 seconds ago..."

At least you let him live and maybe learn a lesson in public relations but an asshole is an asshole and they seldom change.

I'm hidden by the cornfields right now but in about two weeks I will have to put up with people driving down the highway (major road between central wa and Portland) stopping in and trying to "deal that farmer on the rez" out of his junk again. It's nice to be hidden 400 ft off the road at the moment with BBD security on duty.

  16. At least he spoke english. The junk guys by me don't. I have to constantly say "no" and wave my hands for them to go away.

  17. I wonder if the cars would have ended up onEbay?

  19. What ever happened to working for a living? I had a guy who used to come by all the time with shit he picked from the alleys. Usually I'd give him a few bucks just to be polite, occasionally he'd have something cool. I paid him in advance to clean out my rented house when I moved out. He took the appliances and left the worthless crap behind. I had to pay someone else to finish, but at least I got rid of him.

Stole a hood driver door and tailgate plus miscellaneous metal I need for my
Wagon project kicker is they had to move the car to get them as these parts were
Stacked in front of my jeep then they shoved the car back and in doing so put a pair of holes in the wall that I have to patch

My brother use to work for a auto core recycler, you don't want to know how many Flatheads, Hemis, ans Nail heads my brother has had to haul to the scrap yard. When asked if he could buy moters my brother was told no. The owner was not interested in selling single moters.

  23. I put out an old cast iron bath tub a few years back for the trash pickup. I cut it in 2 pieces with an abrasive blade in my skill saw, a little sledge hammer action and it was apart. I had it out at the curb for maybe 20 minutes, thinking how far I have to cut the MFer so the garbage guys take it without bustin' a nut. Just then, two guys in a pick up truck pull up, ask if they can have it, I said, "sure". It was gone in 15 seconds. I swear they can smell steel sitting at the curb. I tossed out a broken up park bench on Sunday that had cast iron sides, that too was gone in record time.

But that was some nerve of YOUR scrap guy. I usually tell pushy guys like that "can you come closer, I can't hear you". They usually get the message after a second or two.

A few years ago when I was still in IL, I had a 57 Pontiac and a 68 Chevelle wagon in my driveway. The city tagged the cars saying you can't have non running cars in the driveways, even though they both ran and drove. I called the guy in charge of that city department and he told me they were junk cars......I asked him which one he wanted to go for a ride in first to prove they were not junk and his words were "You mean they both run ??? Oh, in that case, would you like to sell the Wagon"??? I told him basically to eat a S**T burger.

I can only imagine that Hulk Hogan and Chuck Norris are hiding in the closet quivering with fear after reading that. Even a real bad ass has to know when he has met his match.:rolleyes:
