"After beating him up, you call the police and have the guy hauled out in cuffs, a police report taken"

And when you explain that "he was really annoying me with his questions, so I beat him up":
    Guess who goes to jail?
    Guess who gets sued?
Guess whose insurance doesn't cover civil suits for assault?
Guess who sells his house to pay his lawyer?

Yeah, the internet, where everyone is Clint Eastwood...

A few Hamb'ers know I live in a very secluded area. A dead end road, with a long gravel dead end driveway. I found a scrapper out here one day after being gone for a few days. They were actually loading up as I pulled in, and I blocked them in. After pulling my trusty friend and pointing it, they gave up how they found me.............GOOGLE EARTH!!!!! No shit. They said they knew roughly where I lived, and got on google earth and found an address close enough to me that they looked around it to find me. After a few warning shots, cops called, and all.............I got everything back.

lol my garage is a bit of a mess because that storm Fay pushed on my crappy shed hard enough to nearly tip it over. I have a lot of stuff from that shed in my garage now until I can either fix my old shed or get a new one.

This has been a problem in my area for years.

I had a scrapper stop by a while back who wanted all of the junk in the field next to me.

I explained to him that the junk is all the things that remain after the house and garage that was there burned down.

The people who call that mess their home are armed and crazy.

They have a travel trailer and tar paper shack in the middle of that mess now because we have no zoning here.

I would leave it alone if I were you.

He did not heed my warning and chose to steal some crap late at night.

I saw him do it and talked to Larry, Darrel, and his other brother Darrel about it next time I saw them in their yard.

They said that they knew exactly who he is and where he lives.

They piled into their plow truck with their tree pruning knives and shotguns and took off.

I have not seen the either parties since and I am the better for it.

I don't care much for my unfortunate neighbors, but I still respect and look out for their property and I believe that they would do the same for me.

i'm suprised i haven't had any one stop by my house asking about my buick yet. it's sitting outside, don't have a garage. with the doors all smashed in it probley looks great to all the scrapers in the area. i also have my 73 comet sitting next to it and it hasn't moved in like 6 months. i think they come durring the day when i'm not home. it really has been bothering me that all these people do is look for scrap metal to make a living to me it's like they don't want to work and are a drag on society. i've taken things to the scrap yard before, for work and we had like 6 motors we needed to get rid of. and there always seems to be at least 15 to 20 beat up trucks trying to make a quick buck really doing nothing. some of the things i've seen them scraping makes you know that they were stolen.

We don't have junk collectors in these parts...I guess the freeway shootings are paying off for something other than fodder for the evening news.

Thing is... even though this guy was a royal POS for doing this kind of stuff, by putting the town's letterhead on it she/he was committing fraud using a 'device', which is a big no-no.

No kidding. My aunt had a yardsale a couple weeks ago and the next weekend the 8" rear my uncle had next to the garage disappeared. Must have weighed 200lbs and is pretty much only worth the 20 bucks you'd get for scrap.

I just got back from a backpacking trip in southwestern Wyoming and every town in that corner of the state is strewn with old rusty machinery and parts. Doesn't seem to be any scrappers out there.

I live in Florida too,and owned a boneyard for twenty years. If I saw that Buick in a garage I'd offer $300 for it and it would go thru the crusher after the nailhead was pulled. that buick is a bad distraction when you have the TRI 5 thats next to it. A man who recognizes the buick knows what a dry hole it is.The guy is looking for junk, not selling your kid drugs.

wonder what the statute of limitations is on fraud, impersonating an official govt officer, or criminal misrepresentation by mail? those doctored letters were left in US Postal Service mailboxes.... that is a Federal crime.

whatever. there's a thing called KARMA and it is a bitch to those who deal underhandedly.

This is a major problem with people owning swimming pools. The offenders find a "prospect",watch the house and when the family leaves they party and leave the place in a shambles. It happened locally.
Cars, garages or pools-we have to be vigilante and stay two steps ahead of the ijjuts now!
Good luck to all of us!

I set a nice couch out for the Salvation Army to pick up in front of my shop in by the door, right before the scheduled time.
I hear some noise, and some illegal had taken a machete and cut the nice sofa bed couch apart and taken the metal out of it leaving the rest on the driveway!
I caught him trying to get away. What do you do. I grabbed him and make him clean up all the mess ( broken wood and cloth etc etc mangled sofa) and load it all into his little truck before he could leave.
The lame thing is that he destroyed a nice couch that someone could have used.

Well Aussie boy, when we're looking for a new nuclear waste dump site and I have any say in the matter in the location, you know where it'll be. May the fleas of a thousand camels invade your armpits- Johnny Carson.[/QUOTE]

Consider yourself lucky! My shop is not in the greatest part of town and the local thiefs, I mean junk collecters cut a hole in the fence to my storage yard one night and took 25 years worth of wheels, axles and sheet metal I was storing outside. This sucks because I can't replace this stuff and what did these jerks get but maybe a few hundred bucks in scrap weight!

Crap like this is rediculous, I can't stand a thief. Calling a person's project car scrap is an insult. It seems like tis guy was just an ass. If you don't want to sell something people need to stop. Me and my dad part out old cars and scrap them to make extra money. It is scumbags like these that make hard working scrap guys look bad.
