I am going to begin repairs to my Cameo bed. There are 5 layers of paint on the bed sides. Any suggetions for stripping the paint without damage to the fibergl***. Thank you.
Sand it 1st with an 80 DA. The stripper will cut faster. Also there are strippers for doing 'gl*** and if I recall they dry faster for easier control. Last, it is a pretty flat bed and you'd have to be good with it, but an airfile and 80 grit would also level the sides as you take material down. Gotta be careful with edges or sticking and digging trenches.
That's a "Gem " right there. Cut open the skin .Makes sense. I have stripped literally dozens of cars over the years with stripper, never dawned on me. Old dog learned a new trick.
The great thing about 2days paint "Strippers" is they are much milder that they used to be. There was actually a stripper back in the day just for "Fiber-Gl***". Less Tech Chloride (TC) (if I'm not mistaken) Now that the TC has been removed strippers are less toxic and effective. I also sand with 80 grt first. Next I use the Rounded End of a Body Plastic Spreader as a s****er...so I don't gouge any thing. And of course don't let it set for long time..definitely NOT over night of fiber gl***...
With the new stripper on the market, it's virtually impossible to chemical strip anything. I'm running over it with 80 grit, apply the stripper, and cover the area with a piece of plastic, even then its still a roll of the dice. Bring back my old paint stripper that actually worked lol. The way I heard it, some idiot used aircraft stripper to strip the floors in his house, and it killed him, so after that lawsuit, they removed the ingredient that made it work. Every can of material i buy from my paint supply says "professional use only" right on the can. Guess they should've carded that guy.
On the anti-graffiti clear the instructions say to abrade it before applying the stripper because the surface tension is so great. If you don’t it will only make it shine. They use that clear on buses and subway trains so they can remove the graffiti without having to repaint. We cleared the bosses golf cart with it at Champion Trailer and when he put decals on it the next morning they had all fallen off one were in the floor, nothing sticks to it not even bugs on the front of big rigs.
