Anybody out there have some pictures of some cool Tbirds? these arent really my taste and i need some inspirational images.... kinda hard not to pass up when its free
Sorry, no pics but they're already low, came with skirts and have some cool options like the swing away steering column, front and rear buckets and factory sequential turn signals. They have good lines too, I wouldn't be embarassed to be seen in one. I can picture that one in a nice deep maroon with white interior with skirts, shaved and about an inch off the ground on American "Salt Flat" wheels and 1" whitewalls.
I'll have to look through my pic collection and find some but yes they can look cool, and if it was near here I'd take it in a heartbeat!
Not traditional, but it's the coolest T-bird I've seen to date. (and his wife is smokin hot) Lucky dude.
I was told its a 66. When I was looking at pics it looked more like a 65 are there different models? I notice some have the rear division bar and some do not.
That was one of my favorite overhaulin builds. Loved it. Here's the only pic of the wife I could find in a hurry. She's hugging the sheriff.
Im doing a 66 for a friend right now. I was going to do a build thread on it, just didnt know how many people were interested in these things. Very hard to find pics on them. Heres what it looked like when I picked it up. Rust removal sucked!!!
Exactly. I've been a huge fan of the early T-Birds for years, but have never owned one. IMO, I don't think there has been a nicer looking car come out of a factory since. My favorite factory color is the metallic blue-green. The interiors are incredible too. And to have the original interior with the swing away steering!
I never liked them at all but several years ago at the Goodguys event in Hershey there was a black and silver convertable, that car changed my mind forever on them, no pics, but they can be made real nice.
I had a 66 conv with a 428FE in it for a short time. Beautiful cars to drive, and although they are of juggernaut curb weight, that engine is just right. They are a perfect 'personal luxury' car (which is exactly what Ford intended beginning in 1958, and to me, the 66 was the culmination of that successful effort. Booth seating in rear, swing-away (rather than tilt) wheel, and excellent styling (edgy, not bulbous), they looked good from all angles. Best way to improve one is just a slight lowering job. dj
Looking at the side shot in 50Delux's post. No Skirts looks great, raise the rear wheel wells to just below the belt line and reshape the match the front ( the top of the rear wheel whell slants backward where the top of the front has an even radius across the top) I like the vinyl top, it breaks up the "slab side" rear roof look, Id even consider keeping the trim eschelon on the side of the roof, maybe rework the piece to clean it up. Without it I think the roof side looks too "fat". Set the car up so it looks level and not ass dragger, the rear wheel lip move will help that also. Front grill, lose the trim piece, and make one from an egg shell expanded metal, something similar to whats there but different enough it make you notice. spend the cash to chrome it. Black paint with a set of American Racing Salt Flats, prefer the gunmetal, and red line tires. http://www.americanracing.com/browse_vintage.asp
In '66 they built a landau and a hardtop. The landau has no quarter glass like the hardtop. You dont see near as many of the hardtops as the landau. I had never seen a '66 hardtop until I bought mine.
There is a red one sitting in a barn close to where we supplied a new house this summer. contractor told me that it was for sale but had been sitting in there so long im not even sure if it could be saved. the paint and interior looked good but im not sure about the frame, i think it could have been sitting on it. poison ivy had grew up around it so i didn't get that close but if he had shot me a decent price i might have had to take him up on it!
