Sorry to hijack a little, but since some of you have a big block handy...
    On this chart:
    http://www.kabamus.com/garage/motorswap/swapchart.pdf
It says that Mopar big blocks are actually .5" longer than small blocks.
Can someone measure this and verify? Thank you

Thats right, I measured 30 inches from back of block to front of water pump on a 440 and 29.5 on a 318. Hope that helps you out.

FUNNY...O.K. i'll take your word for it, my first view of a 383 was in a road runner in 68. but you ask can a HEMI look traditional. look smook brother, their as traditional as it get's. if all of us chevy guy's weren't so poor, then every rod out there would be HEMI powered...POP.

    OK, here it goes!

350 B engine 1958 only, Dodge, Desoto and Plymouth

    361 and 383 B engine 1959 Dodge and Desoto, Plymouth in 1960

383 RB engine, 1959 Chrysler only, 1959 only

413 RB engine, 1959 Chrysler and Imperial, Dodge and Plymouth 1961

440 RB engine replaces 413 in cars in 1966.

    400 B engine replaces 383 B engine in late 1971.

1978 was the last year for bigblocks in cars. Motorhomes and boats 'til 1980.

Yes, especially on BB Mopars. You ARE a shit disturber, arent you?:D Fact is, most of the guys on here do not give even the remotest shit about period-correct. But you are on the right track. I am assuming the heads/valve covers you are using are early 4 bolt ones, not '64 & up 6 bolt, right?

Yeah, I skipped the fastest "Stock" cars of all time the 426 Max Wedges! I wrote my post 3 times only for the site to say "NO" and got so pissed I forgot the best factory Wedge ever. Pretty much owned the class once they got sorted out, if only they had the 4-speed then! Sure the 727 was the best slushdrive of the time and the use of a N.Y. City tilt 6 Cab torque convertor was the hot ticket but sticks are still faster. We keep 833's alive behind 750 H.P. @ 2400 lbs. for about 500 passes or so before they grenade, the key is light flywheel and an adjustable clutch that barely holds high gear and high gear only burnouts! I'd like to see what a well sorted out Stage III with a pro-shifted Red stripe geared 18 spline 833 (with a Dana rear) could have done! Hemi's are great in all out form but don't seem to perform to their potential at anything less? I have 392's and a 331 for looks in open bodied cars but my Indy headded 400 stroked and poked to 512 goes pretty good!

Here's a '66 383 with several vintage pieces...these are stout engines...but vintage accessories are getting few and far between..

  21. My '40 has a 426 Max Wedge and PB trans.
However, it may soon end up with a high deck 383 with 3x2's. I have a polished Why-and intake that uses 2bbl Rochesters and a flat cap Mallory dist for it. I'll post a better picture later.
