Hot Rods Can a Model A fit a flathead ford?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by pokey, Mar 10, 2011.

  1. yes it will work. as stated before stick around here long enough and cyoull find out whats right. Im only 18 and i know the right setup for an av8 is a 59ab flathead(1932-1948) a 39 gearbox(preferably with lincoln gears) and a quick change out back. Sounds like perfection to me. And learn quick dont let these guys get to you. Theyre helping you through constructive criticism, not bagging on you.

I hear you:) those 12 cars I built were for the most part stock. I do remember seeing traditional hot rods as a kid. In my time the musle car craz was at it's peak. I have always been interested in 28-31 Model A and willys coupes. When going on the Hamb I was asking questions about my %% Chevy or My 40 Street rod. I really want to get into this so I ordered two books. I will do some serious reading and start collecting some parts. Alot of the stuff you mentioned my friends have it laying around in their garage. The flathead motor and trans(47) there is a model A frame on the hill.

  3. Get the Bishop/Tardell book as someone suggested, it will explain everything.

I agree on the Bishop/ tardell book.

If you want a street rod, ask your street rod friends how to build a Model A with a V-8. If you want a hot rod, ask here how to build an AV-8; or better yet, search AV-8.

I too have a hard time understanding how you could have been on this site for two year and not have any idea what an AV-8 is. I am giving you the benefit of a doubt.

  5. This had got to be the funniest thread I've read in a long time. I guess putting a flathead in my T is something really cutting edge.

You don't need all that*****. You can do it all with Ford parts.

    Mine is:
    Early flathead
    38 trans
    model a torque tube/banjo unmodified and model a u-joint
39 pedal****embly, model a accel. pedal heated and bent to death
shortened model A steering column (use an F100 instead)
    36 ford radiator
    32 commercial grill
32 front beam with A spindles (use whatever I beam you want)
homemade******* engine pedal mounts with Ford type donut engine mounts for engine and*******

Theres alot of ways to skin this cat, this is just one way

The Model A came from the factory with a flathead Ford installed. :)

    Yeah, a flathead 4-banger....but the V8
when it came out in '32 was only 21 cubic
inches bigger! A bit more than twice as
powerful as the Model A 4-banger though.
    :):)

  15. Dont give the guy a hard time.... 99% of the hotrodders where I live have no idea that a hotrod can be built with anything other than a 350 SBC and auto. Some of them have seen my AV8 and have asked (in a bored kind of way) what the hell is that engine? And crossplies and skinny steels? What am I? Weird or something?
