Can a wire wheel be strightened?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by phatboy, Nov 30, 2005.

  1. I've finally got 4 kelsey hayes wheels and 4 new tires (16" ) and mounted them up, put them on the car. Then when I roll'em (it's up on jack stands) they are bad wobbly. The tires look like they are not mounted square on the rims also. Can they be fixed? They have been sand blasted and painted already and really look good standing still. Thanks guys and gals. If they are real Kelsey Hayes wheels, they can be straightened.
If they are the welded Ford ones, not without alot of work (read: buy a different set here).

Yes, a good shop can straighten them. Are you running the support rings. Leaving those out will make the wheel whobble as it is pulled down unevenly. I had a shop in south Houston straighten some wheels a few years ago..

What are they mounted too?? Are all 4 wobbly??Sounds like possibly you didnt use support rings.

  5. Mounting problem, If they really are as bad as you suspect you should have noticed it when they were stacked up on top of each other in the corner of the garage. You can stack up 20 good wheels on top of each other but one bad one will bring the tower down.
