It's in an old ford so it has to be a Chevrolet.

    yeah 292 Ford

  6. Yea like a late 305 with center bolt rocker covers.

It is a Y block, like as has been said if original it is most likely a 292. some of the bigger trucks used the Lincoln Y blocks they were 332, they were used in super duty trucks and yours is an f truck so it is not likely the Lincoln motor. I have also seen the later trucks with 272s in them factory or supposed factory but I would think that would be pretty uncommon.

I failed to say that they are good motors when they are good. The lower end is about as stout a lower end as you will find in a stock motor.

    I agree its a Y block could be 239",272",292",or 312"

  8. If original to a '60, it would ONLY be a 292.
Forth character in serial should be engine code 'C', for 2 barrel carb.

  9. I'm thinking a 272 or 292 Y block.

The guy kept saying it was a 292 but I've never had one and was curious if it was or not. The vin pulled up a 223. Thanks for the help fellas!

    Fourth character is a J

  12. If the vin says 223 than it was originally a 6 cylinder truck and it could be any of the Y blocks afore mentioned and ad 256 incase its a mercury motor.

If it is an ECJ than it is a '55 292. Maybe look on the heads or block for casting numbers.
