Hi my name is jason, live in Louisville Ky. I recently became an owner of a 2 door HT 62 impala. It is a 3 on tree. I need this car to be an auto on the column. I already have a fresh TH350 so that's what I'm using. Can someone tell me how to? And what else I will need? Please help....... Reason for swap is I have a brain tumor and it causes me to have seizures. Treatment is going great but for the safety of my passengers I need an auto. Please help me if you have the knowledge. I can't find anything on the net to give me specific directions on how to. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1390372621.279655.jpg

Sorry to hear about your condition. I wish you the best. First you will need to swap out the column for a auto column since you don't want the shifter on the floor. Then make sure you have a torque converter to install with the trans. Then put it in and make sure the drive shaft fits, if not get it modified professionally. Then hook up your speedo cable and gear shift cable and you should be good. You may need to get a auto trans crossmember also to replace the manual trans one, I don't know if they would be the same.

I converted a 1963 Chevy Bel Air to a TH350 years ago. I can't tell you about the steering column but the drive shaft will need a new yolk and the front of the 2-piece driveshaft will have to be shortened a bit. The speedometer gear should fit but you will have to watch the ratio for the rear end gears. New plastic cable gears are available at the dealer but the speedo may read high. The '62 likely has a .308. rear end. I also welded a plate to the shift shaft of the TH350 and drilled a hole that worked with my 2 speed shifter. It won't select low but I don't need it to.

If anyone that has experience wants to chime in with experienced directions I would like to hear from you. Gonna attack this job as soon as the weather breaks. After hours of searching this rookie can not find any directions anywhere and I wanna be as safe as possible on the roads.
