I think the EAC heads are 52-53 Merc, on the crankshaft measure how far down the hole the piston goes if its 4 inch its a Merc

  3. I was going to say that is Ralf rtan away from home in the late '50s. :D

But I was also going to say that I agree with Russco, I am pretty sure that the EAC heads were an 8BA Ford era Merc. Take Rsssco's advice and measuer the stroke just the way he suggests.

The 4 bolt carb mount is another Merc indicator. The only sure way to tell is to measure the stoke like the others said. Easy to do if its free with the heads off.

My mec flat head has EAC merc heads as well as the 8CM indication. The four bolt flage for the carb was a Merc thing as well. Looks like it's a Merc, but like the others said, only way to be sure is to measure the piston travel.
Not sure, but wasn't the 8CM a Canadian Merc id??

All the bolt-ons indicate Merc - heads, timing cover/dist, water pumps, intake, etc The only sure ID is what Russco stated:

4" hole is Merc. 3 3/4" is Ford.

  11. to the bottom of the hole, top of piston is 3 13/16 but not sure if its bottomed out ? any ideas ???

Is the motor stuck or can you turn it over? If you can turn it, turn it and make sure its at the bottom of its travel (BDC)if it is at BDC one piston on the same side will be at TDC (all the way to the top)if one is not all the way up than the other isnt all the way down. The oppisites will be the very front and very back 1/4 or the 2/3. Also measure it right against the cylinder wall not at the center of the piston which is domed and wont be a full 4 inches down the hole. I hope that makes sense.

Even if its not bottomed out its more then 3 3/4 so its probley a 4 inch crank. Nice find

  15. Well the truth came out on this motor tonight, its a canadian merc with a 4'" inch crank, no lips on the top of the cylinder walls, crank is perfect, came out of a crashed car that the guy put in his garage, the machinist who helped me open it up says 45-55 thousand miles tops, I almost feel guilty for what I paid for it...

Enjoy! But I'm curious as I didn't see anything on it that indicated it was Canadian mfg.

Anything that was, has a C prefix. 8CM was 49-51 Merc and EAC was 52/53 Merc but neither was Canada specific.
