It appears to tbe the bottom of a Y-block ford Holley "towering inferno" carb. I believe a 4-jet Rochester and Carter WCFB bolt pattern is the same and both are definite steps up!

  4. if it is a WCFB, what year did they change to the spreadbore pattern?

They went to the AFB pattern before they went to Q-jet/spreadbore pattern. My 66 Impala 220 hp 283 had a Q-jet on it. I think the afb was used after 58-59.

I'm with Rocky. I think it's a Ford carb. The early WCFB carb fits this pattern.

The WCFB on the right matches your carb. The WCFB on the left is a wider pattern. I don't know when they changed the pattern. The intake in the back ground is a Ford that your carb fits. Sorry for the fuzzy picture.

My guess is the Ford "Haystack" or "Teapot" like Rocky said, but I always thought that the "towering inferno" was the 2x4 factory intake for Y blocks, or had something to do with the intake with 2 fours on it. I've never heard just one of them referred to as "towering inferno."

If it IS the Ford one, the holes won't be exactly square, it will be about 4" one way and 3 7/8 the other.

Whatcha gonna do with it? I wouldn't suggest using it, there are much better out there and FYI, the term "towering inferno" was not a cute joke, in case it is the carbs that caused the name. The factory 2x4 Y blocks had a tendency to erupt into flames, causing the car to be, you guessed it, "a towering inferno."
I'll find out the whole story and post it.
