I believe they are early f100, but maybe they are F-1?? Is the little slot machined near the outside for drum wear?I can see daylight thru em..believe they may be fucked. well at least the backing plates are right...
Been a while! Almost ready to come and check to see if you were pinned under the rod dude! Cheers! Maiki P.S. most F-1 stuff is carbon fibre.
metaphorically speaking im pinned . will be a roller this arvo, so can shift it off my metaphysical self. found your BITCHWHIP tm armband too, fag.
inside, pretty scored up.Does anyone have a max diameter for these things,if they are 53-56 F100 front drums?? thanks a ton.
Danny and I can wheel it around this weekend then Whilst you make BRM noises with goggles on... ..better mow the paddock FRUITYBOI. Maybe use a goat, noticed one in your Bedroom Last time i was over. Thanks for the BITCHWHIP tm armband too, Pussy. Cheers *hic*
dont dis my goat. psycoboy and I found this, thought you might like it, but was too heavy so didnt bother, not your colour anyway. can you read the price tag? hahahahahaa
Thay look like 48 - 52 F-1s factory drums came with the slot to guage lineing to drum clearance for adjustment. Not sure of front but back brakes are the same to 67 so ive been told
Ah so they may not be totally worn out...cool! they seem kinda flimsy, the face of them is quite thin. would F100 ones be better to get?? are they repopped??
I have a set of 55-56 Ford drums, with exactely the same slots cut. They used to do that from the factory? Or is it a backyard mechanic action?
I have a 49 pickup rear and it's the same thing. Drums are light and flimsy comparing to earlier ford pieces, all 4 corners had the same slot. Maybe my parts truck had the wrong trim, said F2 but the brakes may be smaller than 12". must be a F1 in reality. I believe .060 is maximum oversize turning limit on 12", same for 11"? This is data I get from my somewhat local parts catalog: C4TZ-1126-A Each 67.95 Brake Drum Rear 11" X 1-3/4" F1 F100 2 1948-1967 8C-1125 Each 89.95 Brake Drum Front F1 2 1948-1952 8D-1126-A Each 103.95 Brake Drum Rear F2 & F3 2 1948-1951
My Merc drums also have the slot. They are for a feeler gauge to find out if the shoes need to be adjusted out. Those era brakes were not self adjusting so that was a servicing feature.
The slot is also used on early Bendix braked Ford stuff (Lincolns '39-48, F1 trucks) in a major adjustment in which the anchor pin is lossened and clearance set to spec at the top by tapping pin up or down before doing the normal adustment with the star wheel.
I thought you'd be using a HR front end........ Still waiting to hear from ya dude (email me.) Cheers, Drewfus
Here's the procedure for major adjustment from a Licoln sevice bulletin applying to '39-47: Insert .010 feeler through slot with anchor bolt nut backed off one turn. Tap bolt up or down with soft hammer to get .010 clearance between shoes and drum at anchor. (I assume this means NEAR the anchor, since the shoes don't actually reach the anchor area). Then rotate drum and feeler and adjust for 010 all around using the star wheel. Retighten anchor. This is to be used if adjustment just with the star wheel does not give good results.
Can I just say that every time Bruce Lancaster posts something, I have to copy it and save in my files. Dude! I really appreciate what you bring to the HAMB!
