Can anyone identify this Dodge rear end? It looks like an 8 3/4, but the backing plates do not have anywhere to hook up an emergency brake. I don't know if it is stock, or if it is maybe an 8 3/4 out of an early 60's car. It is currently in a 55 Dodge Truck, and seems to have really high ratio gears. Thanks.

60's version 8 3/4 would have a provision for pinion snubber....i swapped a 66 into my old 59 ply wagon....looked the same , but , seems like it had a extra bolt in the center section.....

58, and maybe 59, had the park brake on the drive shaft..........Hence, no hookup at the backing plate....................

It turns out the the rear end is stock from the 1955 Dodge Truck. I counted wrong the first time - there are 11 studs on the housing, which makes it an 8 1/4. I checked the ratio, and it is a 4:10. I'm going to start looking for another rear end so that I have updated brakes, and a better gear ratio. The dimensions are 55.5 backing plat to backing plate, 44 for spring perches, and 13.5 for the center of the axle to the U-Joint. Thanks for all the good information.
