Can anyone tell me what this thing is? Overdrive unit??

    I just scored it with a ton of other cool **** from this hot rodder...

    Looks like some kind of overdrive maybe?

    Any ideas?

    Hmmm... with the funky output shaft on the back, it almost looks like an old school PTO unit more than an OD. Not sure though. Whatever it is, it's ancient. If it was a PTO, it would have a stick coming out of it though.

    That's probably an ancient OD. From what... I don't know. Pre 40's Ford maybe?

    Well, it sure looks like it's the same bolt pattern as a ford torque tube..

    it has a cable operated lever on the top of it...

    the universal joint looks like the one on the back of an old ford transmission as well.

    Looks like a high / low unit from an AA truck.

    anyone got a picture of the high low unit in a AA ford truck?
     
  11. 1928/29 AA high or reduction box. Basically a ****** behind a ******. The one shown bolts directly to the back of the first trans. It has 2 speeds, direct drive and a low reduction or a high.

    making it a "granny gear"? high torque, low speed at high revs? my Dad was heavy into A's when i was a kid, but he only had cars, no trucks.
    i screwed up last year and let go of a Lay**** D unit...... color me dumb***.
