1952-59 Ford Can anyone tell me????

Can anyone tell me why the mounts for my transmission are about 4 inches in front of my crossmember? Do I have the wrong transmission? Is there such thing as a universal crossmember? Some old fella I work with told me he has seen them around. Can I use one of those?

Now I realize why my pops told me to get a running project.... This stuff wears me out sometimes.

Do tou have a six or a v-eight? My 53 has 2 sets of holes in the frame. The Six mounts in the front and the v8 goes in the back set. That will change your set up by about 4 inches.

 

hmmm I guess i never really looked for another set of holes. i have a 292 v8 and a three speed trans. Think the trans might have been from a thunderbird. if that matters at all? I will look for other holes tomorrow. Gotta head to work right now. Thanks for that info!!

 

dragonknucks. Sorry, but the info I gave you was WRONG!!! The six cylinder engine in a 53 mounts in the rear holes. And the 54 frame is different from the53. The 292 should mount right in the 54. The transmission mount in my 53 will only go in one way. Is there a chance that yours can be mounted wrong? Sorry I told you the wrong thing.

 

when i got my 55 some one has welded a crossmember out of what looks like a ranger in where they thought it gose . ive got to cut it loose and make some tabs to bolt the crossmember to the right way . but it works . oh yea tell your pops mine was a running driving car when i bought it , just someone threw it together i guess .

 

I GOT THE TRANS IN!!!! My brother and i stabbed in yesterday! just gotta drill some holes in the cross member and its done. Now I need a new drive shaft. Thanks everyone for the help!!
