    UMMM my answer is no as well My DD Truck has a 454 and straight pipes. it can be just as loud as a harley if Im on it. its not to bad inside. as long as the exhaust exits the rear of the car. now on to drone My Buick also has straight exhaust on a cammed 6 and it gets a rediculasly loud drone @ 1800 RPM light throttle Ive heard that cutting tunnig slits twords the end of the pipe will eliminate drone. I havent tried it(not cutting my polished stainlees pipe)the louder the better:)

    Edit: my truck sets off car alarms idling thorugh parking lots:D

    ha... ya, thats always fun!

    i also like when sitting at the stoplight you get a punk in a civic with a b*** cannon and he cranks it up so he can here is twang.. then you just idle up a bit or throw a rev and they always get pissed off and chirp off when the light turns green... good times... then i put full exhaust on... no straight pipes... oh well...

    I like loud pipes as much as anyone maybe more but when the wifes with me it needs to be quiter. What I did is ran pipes straight out the back with Smithy's for that cool low tone then put cutouts on it with a lever under my seat to open and close the lake pipes.

    Heres a pic;

    As for the sound...theres nothing like the sound of a split and open flat-6!

  6. On anything but a V-8(or a Harley), I don't like them loud. They sound kinda raspy to me.

  7. Take it from a 33 year old with substantial hearing loss it can be too loud. I love loud cars and bikes but throughout my life all the loud noise has destroyed my hearing to the point that I NEED hearing aids. There is a reason that OSHA has recommendations about your exposure to noise. But all that aside I still drive a truck that is too loud, 2 1/2" exhaust with 18" gl*** packs and it was soooo loud that I have since built new mufflers for it that are my own design and it's better but I will be building different mufflers yet as it is still too loud. Good luck.

    I've always ran loud exhaust on all my hot rods & muscle cars. As long as I'm not ****in' fumes & not too much drone-ing I'm OK. A quick way to get rid of drone is to use turndowns, you'd be amazed at how much that makes a difference! Also, you can buy baffeled inserts from an outfit called Car Chemistry out of the Jegs catolouge. Never tried them, but it would probly be just what the doctor ordered for your fishtailed strait pipes.

    that's why the call it the loud pedal...

    i have true duals out of the 10.7:1 461 olds with 30" cherry bombs that exit just in front of the rear tires. maybe 4' of pipe before the packs and 3' after. not terribly loud at idle, but everyone seems to know when i'm coming over. haven't had to knock on a door for awhile ;)
