I want to retain a closed drive line with the bango rearend. The car has a 59ab flathead and I wanted to install the tremec but I dont know what all is needed. Does someone sell the coversion like Chassis Engineering, Cornhuskers, or Vern Tardel... Thanks in advance.
Not with a closed driveline, unless you create some sort of carrier bearing for the tube to mate to, behind the transmission. You will need to fabricate the rear crossmember in the right location for the tremec. (I doubt the Tardels are too interested in them) I'd suggest an open drive conversion with the banjo rear. Hotrodding is about improvisation. Not everything comes in a kit. Get busy.
i did the same in my 34 with a 59ab,except used a T5 trans, had to convert my banjo to open driveline.
CrazyDaddyo sells torque tube conversion for an S10 4x4 T5 trans http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=256226
It's fairly easy to do. Somewhere on the HAMB is a thread about it. I did a couple of them. One with a T5 and the other with a Richmond 5 speed. It involves NO mods to the transmission and little or no machine work. Mostly fabrication and welding. There was a a detailed description on the thread. Here is the only pic I have of it.
Yes I have....guess Im just a bit more traditional...an S-10 transmission or any "newer" parts in a 34 Ford just isnt my thing...good luck!
Here is a related thread to look at, some are staying closed driveline but most are going open drive. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=525504
If you aren't in the 400+ HP range, there is a cheaper option for a good 5 speed. Call up Keisler engineering. They sell the TKO but also have a cheaper one based on a T45 and T56 Borg-Warner that will save you $300-$1000 depending on options. These are good to 7000 rpm and they have several versions. RS400, 500, 600.
[QUOTEwith the set up pictures above with the stock driveshaft, does the drive shaft get shorten or is everything stock location and the T5 fits?[/QUOTE] The drive shaft needs to be shortened in most cases.
