Previous owner did a ton of sound/heat deadening with unknown product. I’m not about to rip it all out but I’m also not planning on adding interior.

Has anyone ever painted (black primer in my case) over this type stuff? Were you successful?

I would just try it but I’d rather find out now if paint will just flake off.

Another option would be cover it with black sound material if I can find some sturdy stuff.

Tractor Supply sells some very thin horse trailer flooring you might be able to adhere to the existing material.

  4. Paint a "test" area that's out of the line of sight. That will tell you if the horse is in the barn much better than 2 dozen wild-*** guesses.
My w/a guess is that paint will hold mighty fine.

100% need a test to see if paint will even begin to stick. I’m just hoping I get someone that says they’ve done it on 57 cars over 10 years and it held up great. Lol.
    Rolling dice I am.

never tried but I would spray it with an etching primer [sticks to aluminum] then paint

  8. I painted over it several times. As far as I know, it's still covered. I don't take panels off to check. :)

That’s just a sheet of aluminum foil with the sticky goo on the other side. Clean all the surface with lacquer thinner and paint away. I bought the same stuff from the home improvement store, then cleaned and spray bombed it like I said, about a decade ago. Still has the same flat black Krylon on it.

Yep, like alchemy says, clean it up and spray it.
I've had some of that stuff painted for a few years and still has paint left on it. If your really concerned about how the paint looks, touch it up every year or two.

If its in a high contact area, the paint could rub over the length of a summer. But it will look like a natural patina, higher wear in high contact areas, low wear in low contact areas, and it probably won't disappear instantly unless its really a high contact area.

I had some of the foil coated stuff on the floor of several of my trucks. After 3 years, the silver was wearing off the top surface (didn't effect the material, just lost the silver color) where my feet constantly moved (at 8,000 - 10,000 miles a year). I covered that with cheap carpet from the home improvement store, but I don't see why an annual spray job wouldn't do the same thing. The cheap carpet is only going to make it a 2-3 years before I have to replace the piece under my feet.

All I know is if you got some overspray on it by mistake you would have a hard time getting it off.

Use whatever MAACO uses, it seems to stick to tires, chrome, gl***, dirt, grease...

You could staple some heavy landscape fabric over it, doing one section at a time. Might look OK.

Heck yeah, I'd spray bomb the hell out of it, leaving the wood all woody!

Then I'd tuck a pirate flag between it and the wooden ribs!

    Yaaargh!!! [IMG]
