Why wouldn't you machine the blower top so that the carbs could be bolted directly on top.

Maybe. Not sure his linkage and fuel lines would still work. The kickdown portion of the bellcrank would need to be cut off, too.

I think that the bolt pattern for the carburetors would put the studs past the flat area on top of the blower. That can be made wider by milling the top down more, but only so much.

This is the adapter that I made. My carburetors are 90º out from his, so his holes would need to be a little farther apart that way:

What about a 1-piece hood, with a speed blister?

Offset air cleaners would look like crap on that car. A nice scoop sticking thru a 1 piece hood would look the best to me. A blown Hemi will suck in a lot of air when asked to, do you really want to restrict that with some funky air filter system just to get a hood on? Maybe a different pan would be a better answer so you could lower the engine if you absolutely had to have a hood.

Actually, that is a really good point.

Weiand and Cragar manifolds are lower in height than Hot Heads, and some of the others.

    Hot Heads:

I believe that the Cragar manifold is the lowest.

Thank You for all the replies! A wealth of knowledge here! I found something that will work off of a link here but the reviews mentioned it restricted air flow. Tomorrow I will go see what manifold I have but I'm pretty sure it's a Hot Heads one. Most of the old school ones I found are made for 2 barrel carbs too. I can't shorten the pan any. I already got the shortest pan I could find & had 1 1/2" taken out of it. Car is really low. Oh, my hood is a flat one. The linkage & fuel lines could easily be made to work with a shorter manifold. Thanks again! Bill...

  9. I thought it was THEE "main point" :D
Ever feel like you are on everyone's ignore list?

    Weiand "typhoon" manifold.
Produced in the 50's thru early/mid 60's with revisions along the way. Being reproduced currently in Australia in its original configuration with 2 round pop-off plates in the bottom. http://www.aussiespeedshop.com/product/hemi-v8-354-392-low-profile-supercharger-manifold
Be careful when looking for an old one because there are some out there made for Howard's chain drive and blower position is too far back.
Those guys down there in NZ and AU have visibility and hood protrusion limitations and restrictions but love blowers. 1" can keep those guys off the road.
It's the lowest blower manifold possible, about 1" lower then the cragar, you can get one if you want, one phone call to AUssie speed.

That cragar manifold is reproduced by a local company right here in Cleveland Ohio.
http://www.rbssuperchargers.com/SSI. - The source for the cragar manifold.
It sets the blower surface just above the very top of the 392 head casting. About an inch taller than the typhoon.

  10. Here is HAMBer @ago car.
A blown hemi under the hood is completely doable. But everything needs to be in the right spot including the ride height.

Alkydigger in Nashville, TN. Has a Cragar style early Hemi manifold. That is on the car above.

I used an air cleaner element designed for a 1965 Ford 427 with dual 4bbls. I fabbed up a IMG_1209.JPG housing to work on my blown Hemi above.

B&M made these - on the "bay" all the time......looks like Holley sells them new still as twin side draft air cleaners - pricy though......and mill off your air horns, then you can use a lower air cleaner without worrying so much about restricting airflow - I would not shim the body or grill shell up.....and milling the adapter is not difficult - any machine shop (auto or otherwise) should be able to help you - just be sure the linkage still clears.....

Fabbing a one piece hood with a speed blister or cut out for the scoop seems to be the actual simple solution in this case. Outside of a straight across swap of manifolds with someone who has a low profile manifold and likes the look of the taller manifold. That would be the genuine simple solution.

I think that he has a 1-piece hood.

  18. I'm trying to figure out how you chop 1-1/4" off a hemi oil pan?
I'm trying to figure out why if a car rides too low, that you start with cutting shit off the bottom of the car to fix it.
I'm trying to figure out how the spectre turbo hat works on a blower.
Then how it fits in with the stuff we love.
I'm trying to figure out why it's to much work to get things milled.
I'm trying to figure out why hanging air cleaners off a carb on a blower setup is a good idea. I guess the spectre hats with K&N cones will look just as silly.

Why am I doing this ? because I'm taking a little break from trying to figure out my own problems.
    And
    This is easy!

Here's the original oil pan & the shorter one. The pan was the only thing hitting so no reason to cut anything else off (also used a shorter trans. pan).

LOL, ok I'm not serious... I hate computers... I can't even get pic's up... Actually I'm taking the advice that my car would look like sh*t with air cleaners shoved under the hood. There's just no room. The '65 Ford one shown about won't even fit... My manifold is a bunch taller than the Weiand, Cragar or one from Austrialia but my distributor would hit the blower if it was lower... 20180126_215321.jpg

    Shortened oil pan... 20180126_174602.jpg

  24. Well, that's not a normal hemi oil pan- the bottom of the sump and the bell housing should be about even. And the oil pump pick up should have gone down into that deep sump.

We really need better pictures if you want better help.

That manifold of yours is a problem, maybe more than just height.
If that's a 6-71 blower, I'll bet you have all kinds extra wired spacers up front behind the drive pulley so it lines up with the crank pulley. Or if it's an 8-71 blower (kinda goes with the mega capacity deep sump pan) it might make sense why the distributor is crowded, the 8-71 is 1" longer on the back of the case than the 6-71.

Here's a 6-71, on a cragar manifold, with a stock 392 distributor housing. More than enough room

Here's a stock style 392 oil pan to trans relationship.

I think you are correct 31 Vicky above. The oil pan looks like a modified truck pan. Full sump. The blower, if it is a 6-71 is moved toward the rear of the intake manifold. My set up, no problem with oil pan or distributor
