Technical Can I still use my generator with a new 22 circuit wiring harness? (1959 ford ranchero 352)

I have a 352 FE from a 64 galaxie in my ‘59 ford ranchero. I’m upgrading the wiring to a speedway motors 22 circuit wiring harness. It’s great so far, but before I get into messing with getting an alternator or trying to find the right brackets for it, etc, can I just use my generator and voltage regulator that’s already on there??

I’ve seen the PowerGen alternators that look like generators, but I read several threads on here that say they fail after a while and don’t disperse heat that well. Plus they’re super pricy. Around 400 dollars.

the new harness has everything all ready for an alternator and all the connections, but if I can keep the generator that’d be great. How do I wire it if I can keep it?

12 volts is 12 volts, right?

I’m not a Ford wiring expert. I think I found a diagram that fit’s??? That said, this much I do know is all you need to do is take new exciter wire (example wire I, charge light per diagram) from new harness to voltage regulator. However you’ll have to make your own harness from regulator to generator. IMG_2088.jpeg

Simple answer is yes you can keep the generator. I’m not up on the generator set up on your Ford. Is the regulator piggybacked on the geny or on the wing/firewall? Worst case scenario is that you need to make a loom that goes between geny and regulator. The other thing to look out for is if your instruments have a voltage stabiliser and to keep that in the circuit.
