Man what a cool story. Lucky you. When I was a kid I built a Model of that exact car, only in darker red.

Great story, thanks for sharing. It seems you and your buddy had the car gene from an early age. Always great to reconnect with a lost friend.

  5. I have been doing everything in my power to do things that relate to my early years. My best friend and I just installed the Tremec in my '56. On our backs, in his driveway, just like the old days. Hell the '56 is a car I have wanted since I was a teenager. My A coupe is something I wanted since I can remember. Cant wait till it is finished so we can cruise it. Trying to find a car for my friend that he would have had back in the day for him to tinker with. He is disabled and does not have the funds to do anything but survive. I built my chopper motorcycle because it is something I always wanted to do. I now have the means to do this, that I did not have before. Marriage and raising a motorcycle racing child kind of put the kibosh to any thing I wanted. Now he drives my '56 more than I do. I am OK with that. And the coupe the grandson claims as his already. He is 4. Makes me happy.
I think Lloyd is gonna make sure the connection will never be broken again. It is good for the soul.

Thanks Lloyd, I'm so used to hearing candy apple red that when I started reading your description I just automatically thought he must of forgot to write "candy" but then seeing the pictures it made since. What a cool color on a cool car. That story just made my day!

Great story and I think most of us can relate. I'm still in touch with a couple guys I grew . up with and though they are not "car guys" we have a great time telling old stories on each other. Keep the connection with your friend going.

Really great story, and especially because it's a '39 Chev coupe; my favorite old car!!
It looks great today, but I liked it even more as a g***er style build it was previously.

He gave me a tour! He takes the model car stuff serious! I never knew such a thing existed until he showed me. Unbelievable detail.

This local 39 has been owned by the same guy since 1959, he was still racing it as of last year but this year his grandson (I believe) is driving, been a race car since the very early 60's.
