Can it be done? Mallory YC cap on vacuum advance distributor

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 4t64rd, Jul 2, 2013.

  1. I want the look, but it's for a street driven SBC... plan on Pertronix too.

Can I use the flat-top YC Mallory cap on a vac. adv. distributor?

Is there one brand that is easier to adapt than others?

Has anyone ever done this before?

    Am I a fool? :p

  2. Crickets... Nobody else has ever had the urge to do this?

No.....I can still find vintage Mallory distributors for SBCs so cheap that I'd do that instead.

You can get sort of the opposite, Mallory design (like '32-48) Mallory distributor with vac hookup. Instead of having a vac can that advances a movable plate to supplement the short centrifugal advance, it applies a brake that shortens/slows a deliberately long curve at full throttle. I forget the prefix that ID's this (maybe Z instead of Y?), but just look for a flattop Mallory with a vac nipple on the cylindrical protuberance that is unfinished on the vacless model.

  6. I had one of them "Z" ones and I sold it... damn
