Technical Can someone explain to me how these friction shocks work?

  1. If you are gonna build your own friction shocks, check out your local Harley shop. Early HD had friction discs on the foot clutch ass'y and the steering damper, along with a "finger spring". All these parts are reproduced to-day. You can set it up with as many steel discs and friction discs as you want. 123.jpg

Contact Zipper motors and see if you can buy a set of theirs. Similar, but with larger and better friction material. bolt and a spring to keep tension. The cars drive real well with them and they look sharp

So what is this "friction material" exactly?

All most nothing is more BS'd about then how well these farmer arm crap things work, at best for a short time they kind of work, most don't want to keep then adjusted,so they end up just junk on your car that drives bad now. If you keep adjusting and keep what ever friction stuff in them in good shape you can get to were you almost think they work well an tell every one there great. I played with them too,but came away from the darkside. Have your fun, just don't like some get all tryed up in a misstake you will not admit too, like some do. They do work better then nothing

I replaced the phonetic discs once on the Zipper friction shocks and also used some aftermarket friction shocks with a stack of leather/steel media that also worked well. It's not rocket science, and in spite of some naysayers, they work preety well. IMG_0618.JPG
