from the angle pictured it looks like a ross (crosley) box but it's missing the adjustment on the cover? could be an early P&S box which was copied off of the Ross design for early race cars.

It looks like a Ross steering gear box from a forklift. Any chance of a bigger/better picture?

What age is your catalog?? I think somewhere around here I have writeup, probably early '60's, saying that parts had become impossible to find (presumably every Crosley box within 500 miles of LA was on a dragster...) and that they had tooled up for the whole shebang. Will look for that.

Aha! Found the Crosley/Ch***is Research article. "Hot Rod Ideas" book, Borgeson, 1961. By this time, CR was fully manufacturing a Crosley boc set up for center steer dragsters: "Forged, one-piece, extended sector shaft...extended, cast aluminum case...splined pitman..." This is a full steering ***embly, no longer a converted stock Crosley. Cost a crushing $57.70 then. Article is full of similar neat stuff.
