Those little float clips have caused a LOT of grief over the decades, because of folks installing them improperly.

Carter did not use them on this carburetor, even though the tops of the fuel valves are grooved. Carter out-sourced some parts (Vernay produced a LOT of fuel valves), and some valves were interchangeable with those used by other companies.

But I opened a new old stock 25-371s fuel valve which is the one specified by Carter for the 2853s carburetor, and there was no clip in the package.

One other item: you did not specify the source of those pictures in your last post. Missouri, where I live, is nicknamed the "show me state". There is also a very old cliche about "taking an unknown source with a grain of salt". If those pictures came from one of the FLAPS carb kits, a grain is insufficient; you need the entire salt shaker! ;)

Even if they came from Carter, be careful. Carter produced 505 different AFB carburetors. One diagram is NOT correct for all.

Jon, firstly my sincere apologies for my so slow reply to your so quick reply! I'm really grateful for the above, I refitted the carb to the car (minus the clips, so was glad to see you felt they shouldn't be there) & she started right up & ran great. Regards where I got the info, it came from a HYGRADE carb rebuild kit. Thanks again for all your help through this, much appreciated.
